Bard Crowd Control

I'm looking for suggestions on becoming a better crowd control bard.

Basically, I'm finding it very difficult to keep more than 2 mobs mez'd at a time considering the bard's mesmerize spell only lasts 3 ticks. I know at 64 bards get a 4 tick mez, which will be very helpful, but one more tick won't solve all my problems.

Charisma is helpful in avoiding resists but one must sacrifice Ac/hp to get charisma. Are there diminishing returns to charisma after a certain point?

Being stunned is also really annoying, although style 5 helps a lot. How effective is the AA finger tricks in coping with stun? At only 3 aa it seems quite cheap and worth getting.

Are there any clicky items that anyone uses to help them cc? A clickly short duration root would be very helpful.

Is there anything special about a bard's keyboard layout that helps with CC? btw I know about the hotkey for switching between 2 targets.

Maybe my expectations are too high? How many mobs can a lvl 65 bard keep under control at one time?

And now some general questions,

What should a bard specialize in after they've specialized in Energy/Defense and Focus/Mind. None of the other 3 look all that great. I won't be raiding much so extra resists don't look worth it, I don't use many 1hb weapons but extra avoidance is nice, and I primarily use 1hs/piercing weapons but I'm not wanted for my dps anyways.

What melody songs do you usually play? I usually play haste or overhaste/regen or if there's no melee about, I'll play +spell damage focus in place of haste. If there's no casters that need regen then I have no clue what to play and I usually just put the rune song on.

How often do you play the spell dot focus and the bane focus spells?

What AA's do you suggest a bard get first? I've already got run3 and won't start getting AAs until 65 but I'd like to prepare.

Thanks for the help.

Parcelan in Dragon Necropolis drops a root clicky ring, no clue how long recast is though.

Besides that I can't help you a lot since I've only done Necro CC but from what I've seen I'd say that you can manage 3-4 mobs at 65 with everything but relic songs. But that's just a guess.

Given that the current setup of Bard melody is only supposed to allow you to keep two mobs on ice, the fact that you find it hard to mez more than two isn't really a limitation of your skill as much as it is an intended limitation on bards. They are not supposed to be CC masters; and being able to keep two on ice pretty much permanently I think fits in nicely as their role of decent CC players.

Also, if you have someone in the group that can root for the split, landing AE mez on the incoming gives a good 30 seconds of time to root multiple mobs, if needed.

Okay IDK why I can't edit my posts, but the post above was supposed to be an edit, not a quote. =/ For some reason I can't change either.

As for the rest of your post, the benefit of playing a bard is that they're terrifically versatile, and you can use AAs to really mold your character into a unique bard. If you want to be a DPS bard, then go for Blade/Strike. If you want to be a tanking bard, go for Blunt/Avoidance. Use your AAs to further customize.

Only a few suggestions: get Singing Mastery III and Instrument Mastery III as soon as possible. They will both help a LOT in improving your song efficiency.

Well first off the lvl 64 mezz is crap , I hate it its resisted to much therefor i dont use it ^^

Ancient mezz ( lvl 60 ) is a much better haste cause it has a -100 mr check ?.

when i was lvl 62 i played haste // renegation to or Haste // resists .

At lvl 65 you get lots of goodie songs like song of the blademaster that is a haste whit +str / dex and a 17 damage shield and then i also play Psalm of the four gives 80 to all resist ( whitout singing mastery ) and has also a ds for 12?.

Then between fights i play renegation if needed .
