Bad pet names

I thought all pets were for is to have something with a hilarious name to follow you around.

I hope Wilford Brimley doesn't play SoD, he might find my bear pet Diabeetus offensive :(

I totally understand. When I'm with close friends, I toss some of the worst jokes around, and having a Jewish + Catholic background I take abuse from them too...the emphasis being on *with close friends*.

Pretty sure that you spoiling for a fight in this thread isn't adding anything --- but I'd be happy to argue in PMs!

Pretty sure theres nothing to add other than agreement or disagreement, disagreeing being something he obviously does from the comment. I'd be surprised if you didn't also realize at some point your comments were also picking a fight.

to a degree, we already do this, theres just not a written rule about it specifically, its covered under rule 6. Player Conduct. petition a pet name. screenshot it if there are no gms around, etc.

Use your heads people. If you want to name your pet with the intention of creating a stir, dont. If we have to make a rule about it specifically, we will. For the time being, we will simply request you to change it, but if it becomes a continued problem we will resort to other measures.

By the same token, dont make offensive pet names, and people wont get offended...

*edit*

Obamabinladen, im sorry, is not an offensive name, unless you either are Obama, or Bin Laden. Which you arent.

I've been hit with the pet name nerf bat before. I picked the name because I thought it was funny, not to upset people, and when I was asked by a GM to change it I did, without jail time involved. Unless a name is particularly egregious or the same person is repeatedly offending I think a polite request should be enough.

I would encourage you to ask the player before resorting to petitioning a gm about something as silly as a pet's name though.

Pretty much same here. Original pet name was Erebus, then went to a fairly inappropriate name, got asked to change it, and then Tacotown became legend.

I just find it kinda funny that the only thing that was really occomplished was the loss of a dog peeing on a Mein Kamph book. Offended or not I allaways got a kick out of that sig. =p

I liked that sig, too.

I like the way it is now with pet names. Obviously we can't have obscenities, or racial slurs, but if hard and fast rules start being made, then a) some of the fun is taken away and b) they stunt some off-hand creativity that, face it, the vast majority of us are drawn to. I get a kick out of the clever pet names I come across, even some of the sillier ones. But if there is "policy" made about it now, then down the line there will be some sort of amendment to said policy because someone got their feelings hurt in a way that the original policy did not encompass. Follow the evolution of that trend, we end up with somethings along the lines of woman-sues-restaurant-because-she-spilled-hot-coffee-on-herself. Which , IMHO, is even sillier than dumb-assed petnames to begin with.

Wow, sorry guys. /endrant
