Avast issue *fix*

As many have noticed, Avast is now showing EQW.exe has a potential problem. This is a false positive and I've notified Avast as such. In the mean time, I have a fix that will prevent Avast from doing this again to the EQW.exe file.

Over view:
Two steps are needed. First, you need to tell Avast to stop checking EQW folder. Second, you need to restore your EQW.exe file to the proper location.

Here's how:
1. Right click Avast in the bottom corner of your screen and select "Open Avast! user interface"
2. Click Settings in the top right corner of the Avast dialog box.
3. Select Global Exclusions on the left menu bar
4. Add the file path to your EQW folder (more on this below)
5. Click OK (this will close one of the dialog boxes)
6. Click Maintenance tab on the top of the screen
7. Click Virus chest on the left side menu bar
8. Right Click on EQW.exe and select Restore.

That should fix your issue and prevent it from happening again.

EQW folder location:
Previously, this folder could have been anywhere on your computer, typically in your game folder, but some time ago the patcher was updated and now it places EQW in a hidden folder. This location can be found at "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Shards of Dalaya\eqw\" for a Windows Vista or greater box. Windows XP is similar, if my memory serves me correctly.. it would be "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Shards of Dalaya\eqw\"

If you're not sure, you can open this hidden folder by typing %appdata% in the RUN box to open it. This will open an explorer window. Look up top and you'll see your username that you need to use.

Hope this helps. Feel free to send me an email with any questions.

Great fix! I heard about this just before I left for the weekend, glad to hear it's a relatively simple workaround.

I'm curious if Avast responds back with why it got blacklisted - certainly I'm sure it's a mistake, but my day job deals in these sorts of issues, so it's got me particularly curious.

Why are you using Avast! and not MSE? There is zero reason to use a non-microsoft AV solution for your real-time protection, it is on-par with free solutions and only slightly below paid solutions.

Stop gimping your computer by using 3rd party AV solutions. Once a month run the bootable version of MSE (I think called offline defender or something) if it finds something, that's when you break into the 3rd part world of MBAM/rkill/hitmanpro etc etc to scrub any infections clean.

I agree with the first part, but once a computer has been compromised, you can't trust anything on it until it has been wiped and returned to a known good state such as from a backup image or reformat and install.
