First of all, thanks for bringing autofire to sod... I'm sure it has made a lot of rangers very happy. However, I think it would be better implemented as a /cm command of some kind instead of the way it is currently. Autofire is not necessary for all situtations... sometimes you just want to shoot one arrow and one arrow only

Also from my initial testing, it seemed like if you turned on autofire, then happened to be too close to the mob when autofire "ticked", even if you corrected the range, you would lose a shot and basically have to wait for autofire to tick again before the next shot landed

So my suggestion is a /cm autofire command., leaving range attack basically as is

I currently have an issue where everytime I push autoattack I get an emote about ceasing my firing. I cannot even use bows. I also get double messages about targetting an enemy/myself.


I am living in fear of throwing my ranged at things

I think I remember being said that staff considered adding a small delay to autofire since "bows are balanced with no auto-attack" or something to that effect. Is it the case or is autofire as good as frantically mashing the range attack key?
 
I wanted to make it a /cm command and it'll be command-based in 3.0 but Woldaff poo-pooed on that due to dev lobby to avoid using commands no matter how much more sense it makes.

There's no delay and it is in fact much better than mashing the ranged attack key. There is a limitation on the refresh speed of the button in our version of the client that screws you out of haste and even delay pretty much 100% of the time.

Bug from having to recode the entire thing 3 times over. Will fix.

Note that this was a compromise on my part to avoid the suggestion of making you autofire any time you have autoattack on and are more than x distance away.
 
Throwing yes but after i had found this out jraul tried it with a bow and it wasn't consuming arrows either

Changing it back to /cm autofire under the auspices of slaar and making it consume ammo when you don't have return arrow aa (whoops) and also making it retry shots after 0.75 seconds if you were too far/too close/etc rather than having to re-wait the whole delay.

edit: and making it tell you if you run out of ammo.

From what I've seen, it consumes the first arrow after you click the ranged button, but all arrows after that are not consumed. I believe this is due to the button not being "pressed" after every shot.
 
I get lots of "You must aim closer to your target" messages while kiting, which makes me think I might be losing DPS but I can't tell since I can't run a comparison. But I get the message even when I'm directly facing a mob that's running up to me. It seems to do it more often when a mob isn't snared, making me think that terrain impediments and/or lag is causing the message to appear.

Wonderful tweaks. My only suggestion would have been to make autofire toggle-able since there are definitely situations where autofire is not preferred (especially since I like to F8 target - yikes!). Looks like you've already got it down.

And thanks for the autofire feature! Now rangers with a sub-Clockwork delay bow can nuke without losing DPS! The Swiftshot is a viable weapon now and won't inflame carpel tunnel! AMAZING!

Can you clarify: you're saying the refresh timer is still capped even though we're not physically mashing the ranged attack button anymore, correct?
