Augmentation Question

Sorry for what is probably a silly question... I just cannot seem to find the answer so ask I will!
I just started the MQ and received the gemstone of learning. I have no idea of how to use an augmentation. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how I can learn about augmentations? I am old school EQ and never dealt with these before so I am sorta in the dark!

Thanks!

Apparently no wiki article exists covering this. That will be fixed.

Augments are just that, augments to your gear. They allow a bit of customization to anything with an augment slot, which is most armor. Different armor can have different kind of slots, cloth for example tends to be type 5 while jewelry tends to be type 3. Augment type and slot type must line up.

To put an augment in an item requires an Augment Kit, which can be bough cheaply from any Augment Vendor. You should be able to find one in most towns, Oggok and Athica come to mind immediately. Simply put the item and the augment into the box and hit combine. If you decide you don't like the augment, put the augmented item and acid (also bought at the Augment Vendor), into the kit and combine that as well. NON QUEST AUGMENTS WILL BE DESTROYED THIS WAY. But quest augments (like the one you got from the MQ) can be used over and over again.

Player vendors sell augments, and some can be pretty cheap. That should be all major points.

I would suggest just carrying at least one Augmentation Kit + a stack of Acid on you at all times until you advance further into the MQ as well. It is a complete pain in the ass to finish a portion of the MQ and not be able to remove your Gemstone so you can turn it in for the upgrade and to advance to the next portion of the MQ. I learned my lesson the hard way having to waste a good hour running back to a town and might have even wasted more time because it was night time and I hadn't stocked up on Acid (had to wait for daybreak to purchase more).

Not exactly what you were asking, but the previous post covered everything that you asked.

That's really solid advice period. Or you can be like me and mooch the communal Aug Kit from the guilds Mage whenever I need a searfire (every raid).

Oh, oh, so I can un-attach the Gemstone? Cool. I probably knew that a couple of years ago, but I asked about this in newbie-guild chat the other night. Someone said I shouldn't use it yet until I got farther along in the quest.

Edit: Oh, and there's an augment vendor in Erudin, across from the Mage's guild, I believe. At least there used to be. I'll check tonight.

*Note* This mage probably hates you, and will at some point fill up your bags while you are mling with worthless summons, probably stacked ones so you have to hold shift or press more buttons to destroy them.

The mage will like it. I mean after all once the summons are done if they don't have an aug kit to share what good are they?

Cinn: Did you just tacotag?
Aisling: Yes.

Question: how do Thaz augs fit in here? They are nodrop and somewhat quested, but atm they seem to poof when you unaug them. Intended? Bug? I guess the later since I know that they were reimbursed, but some clarification would be nice.
