Approaching lvl 55

Hi, I'm getting close to level 55. I box a monk and a druid. Should I halt leveling at lvl 55 and allocate all my exp to AAs or keep pushing for 65? I've heard I should stop at lvl 55, catch up on all quests (MQ, newport, Thurgadin, etc), catch up on gear, do adepts and gain at least 100 AA points before moving on. Any recommendations?

It's personal preference. I'd say stop at 55, do the adepts once or twice, and decide then if you want to stay for a bit or push to 65. With adept loot being expable now there might be some items to go for that will last a while but I'm not sure.

if you wanna do all the content and junk then stay at 55, if you wanna just get to the real endgame then just level. you wont be missing out on much

1. If you are interested in advancement/elf dolars to buy gear/exp/joining a guild/raiding, go straight to 65 and grind AAs there
2. If you are interested in experiencing low level content/adepts/completionism/testing the limits of what a 55 box can and can't do/accomplishing things "on your own", then stay at 55

basically what Susvain and Eisley said

level 55's can...
-grind AAs in places like Lasanth/Faentharc/Sorcs Lab/GD...
-do the Main Quest (can box most of it, the final part(s) can be 4-manned)
-do Heartland Faction quests (can box a lot of it)
-do the Newport Ring quest (box steps 1-3, probably need at least 3 for step 4, 4-6 for step 5)
-do deity quests depending on your deity
-do some PoLore questing
-do Thurgadin quests (4-6)
-do R1 bounties (4-6)
-do simple maps (4-6)
-do adepts (8-12)
-and honestly lots of other things that I'm forgetting

level 65's can...
-do a lot more stuff including actual raiding

on the subject of raiding a competent 55 adept crew can take down old world Tier 1's, but this almost never happens. maybe one day there will be a dedicated 55 guild doing T1s in Ikisith? idk

100 AAs might be a bit much but i think pushing for 30-40 AAs and exploring the content a little might prove funner.

If you level to fast to 65 you'll find that you won't have money for spells and gear. The mob types that you fight that are blue at 65 tend to be harder, not your auto attacking mobs. Stopping at 55 to do some quests and farm isn't always a bad idea you will find it easier to solo at 55 then 65 as well as duo. Though if you are a healer you can get by rushing to 65 as the demand for you is quite high.

65s can farm money faster than 55s though. Fresh 65s can box OG plants, mielb named cycle, crystal caverns, etc. without issue.

Killing 5 nameds/ph in CC before repops with my 55 box.
Can do 4 if you are a little less "uber" like my box with the right combo(Dru/Pally(for Calm)).

Sorc's is even better money with the IKFs,named and gem drops,it all adds up.

DN would be about the same as CC and Sorc's if it werent overcamped.

Lasanth was nice once until they did something to the T-maps drop rate, never looked back since
I didnt get a single map in ~25 hours there.Fortunatly my 65s got their questpieces before
the "nerf" there happened. :)

No idea about OG,MielB I dunno,no TS drops,items mostly in the 100p range,long move.

Alos there is Starfall,no joke, though its super hard with 55s,most annoying underwater fights spiced up with knockback, argh. :)

So yes,65s can farm these zones faster, but mobs would be mostly light blue and even some greens.I think a better plan is to stay at 55 and get AAs while these zones are still dark blue.

Every one of the zones you mentioned except lasanth is dark blue at 65.

Entry Sorcs kobolds (mostly everything prior to village) and most of CC (except dwarves and gems) are lightblue at 65, but yeah in both of those zones being level 65 lets you clear more PHs and harder mobs that drop better items.

I was just posting to refute the "if you rush to 65 you won't be able to afford anything and 55s farm easier" because it's wrong.

Ok scummy method.......
Play 1 class doesn't matter what
Box an ubers alt for rots on raids that you'll get some also.
Box said uber toon's main obtain retarded amounts of duo/group exp.
Do Tmaps with said uber alt.
Completely break the game for yourself
Quit 3 months later

Its all a matter of preferance I think the 55 rout is probably the most fun. I am also partial to the 55 rout due to the nistalgia of the zones used as well as the feel if it. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think wiz's original content is the most EQ 1 like. I love miel B/LowerGuk the most of any zone.

I know, but all of the parts of those zones that are actually farmed are darkblue. Very few people farm kobold furst/the two nameds at the front of sorcs. And I think all of the nameds in CC are db, except maybe the trash for the White Widow.

Nostalgia only lasts so long. We may have fond memories of the past when we were kiddies (some of us atleast) of corpse runs, CH rotations, and zerging spank and tank bosses. But the fact of the matter remains, that is a very boring and vanilla formula that will not and has not proven to be successful at retaining enough players to be relevant. SoD feels like an entirely different game from classic EQ (thankfully) once you get through a handful of the early tiers. That is why a lot of people suggest doing anything within your power to get there as fast as possible.

People that are still here and cling to their nostalgic ideals are weird people and you should stay away from them.

This is a defense mechanism that Bango's psyche created after his sk Veefosho never got to tank at lower levels since Dolin was always tanking

I would say that it really depends on your intentions. Do you want to take the game slow and experience all of the content that SoD has to offer? Or do you want to hit level 65 and start the endgame without wasting a lot of time on low end encounters? I kind of feel that level 55 characters are something you do after you get an ok main and have experienced what SoD is like at level 65. Like maybe its worth it to get 30 AAs or so and some adept gear and quest gear but past that its just so much more effective to hit 65 and actually start your character. You can actually experience the rest of the game and the massive amount of post 65 content. The adepts and content around the 55 range are pretty fun but its definitely not worth staying for an extended period of time if its your main character. Also you do get xp easier and quicker once you hit 65. Gear really isn't that big of an issue because VE maps are super easy and a group of fresh 65s can do them wearing mithril gear. When someone hits 65 they are going to replace all of that gross adept gear that one spends forever getting with easy to get tmap items or BOE drops anyway. It really depends on what you feel like doing though. I always thought the idea of a level 55 character is fun but it seems like something you work on once you get bored of your main character.
