apprenticing

I think it would be a neat idea if there were a type of apprenticeship for the server. A higher-level character takes on an apprentice that they would instruct and show little tricks of the trade to. The teacher would gain an exp bonus for the exp the apprentice gets or just a bonus for having an apprentice. The apprentice could leave the teacher if the teacher isn't doing their job.

I Think this would give a little more reason for the higher and lower levels to mingle and it could help the lower levels learn the game a bit quicker.

Maybe they could have a private channel between the 2.

I actually like this idea alot. Perhaps it could be tied somehow into the adventuring system. The Pc could take an apprentice or 2 and those apprentices would recieve a small xp bonus, a bonus to a class skill, or some sort of quested "training" gear. Perhaps it could also be worked into the MQ as a side quest. The master would need to complete the side quest to get the ability to train others. All interesting ideas but all alot of work.

Also imo it would add a little to the RP side of the server.

I think this idea has potential, but there'd have to be significantly more to it than simply accepting someone as your master to give them exp.

Actually I saw "apprenticing" and the first thing I thought of was tradeskills . . . since in the traditional sense, that's how all tradeskills were learned up until about 200 years ago.

Not sure how I would implement it thought. . .

So the system would have a way to determine if your apprentice is your alt or not?
Because that seems easily exploitable or I misread the topic 3 times :brow:

To become a master you must have completed the MQ up to the heartlands part. You must be level 65. There would be 4 quest starting individuals throughout the world 2 each for evil and good aligned masters. You would complete several mini-quests to complete the whole quest. The quest would yield 2 results. The first “The Master’s Crest” which is a clickable item which summons “ An Apprentice’s Crest”. The second is an augment. The crest allows access to master/apprentice only quests. The augment is ungradable only when the apprentices have completed their quests.

The quests would also help align apprentices toward the alignment of their masters. Only evil masters can give evil quests and vice versa. These quests would yield level appropriate items for the apprentice and quest items for the master. The crest also allows the apprentice to get an increase in XP. When the apprentice completes a certain number of quests they can obtain an augment that is class specific. This augment will allow them to one day become a master themselves after the original quest givers are eliminated. Making the system perpetuate itself.

The tangible benefit to the master would be slightly increased XP, rewards from the quests their apprentices, and an augment that grows in power as their apprentices finish quests

This would increase the amount of class specific loot and quests and also create strong bonds between players in the game. Apprentices would need to be the same class as the master.

any thoughts?

wow thats actuly a vary well thought out plan, but what happens when you wanna take on another appretice?. can you?. and if so do you get a 2nd teir augment reward?, sounds pretty nice plan at the lest.

I would envision it being a several tier augment reward and I would think up to 3 apprentices would be fair.

I think its been shown Wiz and company can implement things the way they want most of the time within the current client restrictions. Im sure he wont make it a hack job that EQ is.

I like bones Ideas.

Multiply apprentices. Maybe the person would have to have a certain amount of AA points to have an apprentice. 0-100 = 1 101 to 200 = 2 and 201+ = 3.

There could be a level restriction as well for apprentices. 1 app between 1-20, 1 between 20 - 30 and 1 30+

One of the things that would restrict the amount of apprentices I think would be the idea that the master is supposed to be training the apprentice. If someone had 10 apprentices they would always be answering questions or not being a good teacher and not answering the questions. Keeping it low gives the master time to do what they want with hopfully not a lot of their time spent helping their apprentice.

We could come up with some other quests that would be master/apprentice quests that would maybe give items for both. Not sure if this is possible but maybe an item that needs a required level of 80 (65 master 15 apprentice) to use for the master and a lesser version for the apprentice.

Maybe the masters spells cast on their apprentice would more benificial or maybe the level difference in buff to buffy could be increased.

The apprentice could also show who their master is maybe before their name.

The masters could get a spell or item that summons their apprentice incase of menial tasks that need doing.
