Amulet of Newport

I have been turning in the tokens from the bandit head turn in and I have only been getting faction for the citizens. I was getting faction with the guards, but that stopped. I con Amiable to the desk sergent, but the guards of Newport I con Indifferent.

When I ask about the amulet the desk sgt. tells me I still need to prove myself, and talk to the guards for some work, but yet I can't get any more faction. What else can I turn in (aside for the gnoll ears and bandit heads) or kill to build up my faction so I can do the quest?

Regular bounty tokens will only take you up to kindly. Turning in Liodreth heads to a guard in the badlands will get your Greater Bounty tokens. These can take you up to warmly. To get to ally, you can then either kill orcs in everchill for their ears (which net your Major Bounty Tokens) or do some clever factioning in other ways. It's possible to do it without killing everchill orcs (I just did a few days ago) with some ... maneuvering. Still a humongous pain, but a free clicky home is not something to be sneezed at.

Ok, I have a question about the factioning as well.

The ways that I know of to increase faction are:
1. Collecting crops in West Badlands
2. Bounty tokens from gnoll ears/bandit heads
3. Greater bounty tokens from liodreth heads
4. Everchill orc heads (no where close for me to do yet)
5. Newbie quests for collecting giant beetle legs, rat tails, ratman hoods
6. Scouting for Newport quests

I just hit amiable last night and know that I still have a very long way to go. I had turned in a couple stacks of gnoll ears, at least one bag of crops in the badlands and had run each of the newbie quests once and was still only at indifferent. I started the scouting quests last night and got the corporals insignia - this is what bumped me to amiable. It appears that the scouting quests give sizable faction hits or I was just at the edge of the next level and another stack of bounty tokens would have advanced me to amiable.

Now I am a bit torn as to proceed from here. As Rab said, regular bounty tokens will take you to kindly. I don't really want to go lay waste to Blackburrow for gnoll ears - there is almost always someone hunting there for experience and I don't want to screw them over. However, deep in is usually open so I can always do that. I could turn in more crops, but that is extremely tedious and not a pleasant option. I have cleared the bandit camps every time I ran through West Badlands and have yet to see a single head drop which limits that and the drops for the newbie quests don't drop often enough to make it worthwhile. I could go ahead and start with Liodreth heads for the greater bounty tokens, just making up in volume for the kindly faction that the regular tokens will do, but I have only seen a single head drop out of maybe 50 kills - this looks like it is going to be a long haul, too.

The dilema I am facing now is that the only thing that has given a big boost to faction is the scouting quests. I really do like to quest rather than grind but I am afraid that I will use up the nice faction increases too early - assuming that the quest will still give faction from warmly up to ally - and get stuck trying to drag people to Everchill for orc heads.

I know that getting the gate necklace is not supposed to be easy so I don't want this to come across as a whine. Just "thinking out loud" as what my best options will be.... I know that I will probably end up doing the quests first, 'cause I might as well do what's fun and not work :p

I went from Dubiously to Indifferent doing 4 of the Scouting for Newport quests. They are BIG hits.

I just did the Scouting for Newport Quests (up to the third one) and im now Amiably but dont have the level yet to fight orc in everchill.

Could you tell us more about the maneuvering you did to get to ally? =)

5. Newbie quests for collecting giant beetle legs, rat tails, ratman hoods

Can you tell me what/where's the quest for the ratman hoods?
I have yet to see the tails from the sewers tho. ;(

NM

NM... hehe. hailing guards til I found it. =)

Found the newbie sewer collections NPC.

What/Where do you do with a 'Darkmaw Sentinel Paw' tho? Is that another collection quest.

An update to factioning with the regular tokens. I went to the lower levels of Blackburrow and rounded up a dozen or so ears and converted them to tokens. I was already at amiable with the desk sergeant when I turned them in and only got faction with the Citizens of Newport, not the guards.

So, when Rab said that regular tokens will take you to kindly, is that only for the citizens and not the guards? If so, is it the citizen's faction that we should be most worried about or the guards?

I am planning to keep after the Liodreths hoping to get more heads to drop in the meanwhile.

regular tokens take you to amiable, liodreth to kindly and everchill ears to ally. i believe that's the way wiz stated the progression was.

I was wondering that myself, I have about 40 of them.

There's an NPC outside of Halas who accepts them. Four at a time to be exact.

EDIT: NPC's name is Frost Warrior McMason

clever is as clever does

So I've gotten myself up to warmly with all the other meathods, I'm level 45 and the orcs still squish me, what clever factioning is this you speak of? I'm one of these fools that forgets to bind all the time and this thing would realy enhance my gameplay. If anyone knows what you can do to gain to ally without the ears please let me know.

I've been reading this thread over and over again, and I just can't seem to find the answer I was looking for. This has already been asked, so forgive me for asking it again, but I may be a little dense and unable to see this answer in all of this. Anyway, is the faction required for the quest the Newport Guard faction or the Newport Citizens faction? I have done all the newbie quests to exhaustion (rat tails, ratman hoods, beetle legs), gone through 20 stacks of crops, and turned in probably 40 Bounty Tokens from ratman tails, gnoll ears and bandit heads. The only faction hits I receive anymore are for Newport Citizens, and my faction with the guards has only risen to apprehensive, not to amiable, as stated will happen with regular tokens. Am I doing something wrong? Or is it the Newport Citizens that I need to have ally faction with? (I'm not there yet either) Thanks in advance.

Luthien, the way it currently works you need to do increasingly difficult farming to gain the faction. Crops will get you to a certain low faction, basically out of KoS. Then you move on to gnoll ears. They will get you higher. Then it is liodreth heads to get up to warmly. And everchill orcs to gain that wonderous ally faction. Does that help?

While I haven't done the quest myself, I'm fairly sure that the guards are the faction you need to get ally with. The quest-giver is on guard faction.

As I recall, regular bounty tokens increase your faction at a rate of one level per 10 tokens. I haven't yet turned in my liodreth heads to see if they're the same. Anyone know whether the rate remains the same for the greater and major tokens?

Also, as I think someone already asked (sorry if there was an answer and I missed it), is there a max on the faction level the scout quests can take you to?
