Amalgamated Shortsword

I think this item needs to be looked at:

Amalgamated Shortsword

Drops off Ancient Wind Torrent

Hits for ~700, 1300 DD magic AE + knockback, Whirlwinds; also the AE reduces spell casting range (huge pain).

edit: I forgot, AWT is extremely magic resistant and high fire resist.

Compare to:

Wretch

Drops off Aanshlav

Much easier mob, hits about the same, but much weaker AE, no special stuff and he can be walled so casters can avoid AE.

AWT is pretty much impossible to wall so clerics tend to end up in AE range. Melee are pretty much useless between the AE and the WW.

Anyways, for the difficulty of this mob this sword is not very good.

Suggestions (each line separate):

+2 damage / 1 delay.

-2 delay

+2-4 Magic Damage, maybe 1-2 cold damage.

A good damage proc (not something with ridiculous aggro like say, a stun + DD). Maybe a lifetap?

A good worn effect (no ideas here)

Summary:

The AWT is too hard for that weapon. The other loot we got was pretty much in line, so I suggest upgrading this instead of making the encounter easier.

On another note: How do crit mods work? What I've heard (and only heard from players) is that it adds a % of your crit rate, rather than adding directly to the base percent. Which is to say, that if you have a 10% crit chance, a 1% mod adds .1% chance to crit.

The problem of the AWT is that it's just one port away. So you don't have to clean anything before raeching him. This reduces the quality of the drops a lot. Also, +% crit items aren't very common, and I guess they're highly valuated addition when designing items.

But who knows, maybe you're right :).

In regards to clearing to Aan... any guild that can kill AWT can easily clear to Aan in about 20-30minutes, while receiving scales and ornate gem drops for the trash killed. So basically, the clearing is both trivial and rewarding. I think it clearly needs to have either its ratio or stats looked at, as Wretch has 8 stats / 5 resists on it, and only loses 5hp and 2% crit strike.

We consider this item to be fine. 2% critstrike makes up for the ratio.

Wiz, could you comment on:

It's something I've been wondering about too. I also heard there's a cap of 12% crit rate? I'd presume a .1% added chance to crit is frightfully low... (if this is the situation)

It's a direct percentage add to crit chance. So if you have a 5% crit chance and get this shortsword, your chance is now 7%.

The only cap is the one on critstrike (the item effect) which is 10.

I was under the impression it worked as Llanoldar described. Knowing this does make a differece, thanks for the clerification.

2% critstrike will raise your DPS by about 2%, right?

... I'm betting changing your PRIMARY weapon from 14/21 to a 15/21 weapon would raise your DPS more than 2%. Or your offhand from 14/21 to 16/21. (7% and 14% ratio improvements respectively -- that much ratio improvement should easily give your character a 2% DPS boost) This means that this sword is worse than a 15/21 in mainhand or 16/21 in offhand without the 2% critstrike for DPS purposes.

Not disagreeing, just noting how much more powerful ratio is than +% crit. =)

Have you considered that maybe this sword isn't supposed to be as good as a 15/21?

Did anyone notice that this sword is also DROPPABLE (according to Wanelo)? That increases its value as it can be passed down to lesser equipped members when the current owner replaces it with something else.

Ok, that works. I was under the impression that crit strike was relatively useless and was basing the 'value' on that. If it does add directly to base chance then it does make the sword better than I previously thought, and any upgrade needed much smaller.

Maybe 3 more dex? Pleeeeeease? I like multiples of 5 =(

(In all serious I have no more complaints. Case closed.)

Id just like to point out that yes I said clerification, and yes I am a dumbass. Also, no I wont edit it.
