Alternative titles

I think it would be cool to have alternative titles, kinda like CoH has badges. You get from doing certain things or killing certain mobs or a number of mobs. Like "Gnoll Basher" or "Protector of Newport" would appear below your name etc.

Just a thought...

Final Fantasy XI had this going, except everytime you completed a quest you got a title that corresponded to the quest.

My favorite was "Shaver of the Lambs"

Sounds like a port from EQII where after killing so many of a particular mob you recieve a title like 'Goblin slayer'. Was quite the treat to see a huge hulking ogre running around with 'Fairy Slayer'.

I think the last expansion I purchased from EQlive gave you the ability to choose a title from a list of available titles. I never played that expansion for long, but I do recall the list and it was from a choice of tradeskill titles and PoP titles for AA's earned. You typed a command and could choose from a drop down list depending on your AA's or tradeskill levels. Like my 65 cleric could choose to be Mistress, Lady, or Expert Blacksmith, etc.; while my 53 Druid could only be Grandmaster Cook,Apprentice Tailor, or Expert Brewer(Druid having zero AA's,Cleric having a bazillion). Whether we have this on SoD or not, really makes no difference to me, as titles never mattered to me on EQlive either.

I totally never have names on, so it wouldn't matter to me, either.
In that case we could make your name "Portbot Jerison", you wouldn't see it. but it give something fun for the rest of us to look at ;)

This seems contrived and unnecessary. Titles should be special and unique, not common and uninteresting like a bottle of stale Pepsi.

It's really cool to see someone with the name of "Argus of the Scale" or whatever, makes you wonder what they did to earn such a title. If everyone had some sort of unique title it wouldn't be nearly as special.

You are missing the point... what makes them special, unique, and interesting is the fact that they are uncommon... not just given out for completing a quest or killing something.
