Agro

Oh lord..what have I started.........honestly...this is about PETS, NOT MONKS! GOD!

most mobs will attack you...unless they are city guards, or whatever, some citys dont like you depending on your "faction" with them...for example, the town you start in *should* like you if your an Iksar, if you go down to Taldor, they will try to kill you... most outside-city mobs will attack you, because first of all....thats WHY the game was made...

Back to agro guys lol

That's simply because a pet isnt allowed to tank over a PC, so if the pet master aggro is higher than the melee PC, it will "beeline" like you said.

I know a pet isnt supposed to tank over a pc

Im talking when Taws has no aggro on a mob other then your basic aggro because a pet is on the mob. I have never cast a spell on it, but my pet is engaged on the mob. If i take oifer and engage the mob it doesnt attack oifer and it doesnt attack the pet, it goes right for taws until I guess the oifer has outaggro'd the pet. Most of the time it will ping pong between taws and oifer until the aggro issue is fixed which is usually a few seconds if that.

Its not a big deal as i usually only take a hit or two or less depending on the distance between taws and the mob.

I guess I could have been more clear... let's say Taws sends his pet on a mob, and does nothing else. 1 minute later when Taws still has 1 aggro and the doggy has 100 Oifer joins in and wacks the mob once for say 20 aggro, the mob wants to stay on the dog but isnt allowed to anymore since Oifer is on aggro list and within melee range, and bam, it runs to Taws.

Hrm. If I am reading you correctly, your description doesn't match with current WR reality. Knowing you're not a dummy, I could assume I am not reading you correctly.

Anyways, if taws does 1 agro (via just sitting, or healing, whatever), and pet does any amount, then anyone that ISNT a pet enters melee range and agros at all, sure it backs off pet. But it does not go right for taws unless taws has generated the most agro.

In short, when non-pets enter hate list, at that point pets are ignored for the sake of mob target selection.

In the scenario vero described, oifer would get it, since "20 agro" > "1 agro".

Keep up the discussion folks. Oh, and 'sadly', I can no longer offer examples. I dinged 63 and a level 61 earth pet does just fine now, thankyouverymuch :) (i.e. his roots aren't so rapidly broken or outright resisted and he can tank a *long* time on average mobs).

Thats how I thought it should be, but its not like that or wasnt last i played, pet goes to the caster until said pc generates more aggro then the pet as I said it did and as Vero confirmed how it works. Its not that big of a deal and I havent logged in in awhile to even test it.

Maybe, it would seem logical from a coding point of view... but I seem to recall it working the other way though, but I don't play a pet class, so bear with me... >_>

I can confirm the whacky agro when pets are involved... Pet tanks for awhile alone. I (the pets master) do nothing, tank wakes up and joins the fight. The minute the tank is in agro range of the mob the mob takes off for me.

Then there is usually a ping pong agro happening between me and the tank while he generates enough hate to hold agro.

Very odd stuff

Thanks Wiz. Much appreciated.

Is there any enlightenment you can give us, either here or in the patch when it comes? Curious what the specifics were.

What I think happends is : when you send in pet, you that has summoned the pet gains the same aggro as the pet -1 (or something like that), now when a PC (tank?) arrives in mob range your pet isn't allowed to tank anymore, so who has the most aggro then.... you that summoned the pet. That is why the mob goes for the summoner instead of beating on the tank.
