Again with the 1017...

Ok I posted once about this 1017 error where its loss of connectivity or could not connect to patch server thing...well I ended up reformating to redo my system and I have SOD backed up on DVD...I took SOD off the DVD and put it back on my system hit repatch all and patched and got in! I was not plauged by the 1017 any more!!! well now its back. I dont know what started it yesterday but its back but when i finally did get logged in almost all my characters zones where down. I tryed to use the DVD again kinda like a "repatch" but it didnt work. My question now...is this server side or not? O and if you just say Patch EQ and then repatch all dont post cuz I am not repatching on a 56k...on a t1 line its goin to take roughly an hour to update so...I will do that tonight when I head to school and see if that works but I just wanted to know if any one had any other Ideas. I would be grateful for this to get fixed and would hate to leave the server cuz I cant play :( I really like this server keep up the good work SOD STAFF!!!

It looks like 90% of the time what is mentioned is that you need to disable all software (including the WinXP native one if running that OS) firewalls (that means ZoneAlarm too or whatever else). Other times, they had to bypass the hardware routing/firewalls and plug directly into their cable modem/dsl modem. If you're dialing up however, I doubt that there is a router in the mix.

So, try those steps, and if none of that works for you, click search, type in '1017' and read all the results; I've already read about 15 of them for you and I'm not even having the problem.
 
Thanx for being a smart @$$ but i was hoping for some actual Ideas...I SEARCHED THE FORUMS!!! I am not a Noob at this and I dont have a Virus scanner/firewall running at all not even windows built in firewall it is all disabled i am running ti with EQPN and still not working...

Though i have been able to log on today more then in the past day or 2 I still would like to rid my self of the 1017...I got on today but every zone i crashed i dont have texture cache on so....thats not the problem either...Hoping for a fix soon

Sounds like you are another victim of the Error: 5e bug. Check your dbg.txt file and see what happens when you get the 1017 error. If you are unlucky like the rest of us and you are getting the 5e error there really isnt too much you can do but keep trying to connect. Some people like me cant get in at all while others manage to get in after several tries. We havent heard from Wiz on the issue in a while, so I am taking that to be bad news :( . Not much we can do at the moment except wait and hope that Wiz and his crew figure out whats the deal with the server. Other than that just keep trying and if you are able to get in and play consider yourself lucky.

Sorry if you took me to be rude. You did basically say "Fix my problem and don't tell me to do what everyone always tells me to do because I'm not gonna do it right now" so I took some time to try to find a solution for you but felt justified in delivering it with a little flavor.

I have the problem every so often... last night was bad... but I was having general internet connectivity issues so I chalked it up to that... plus SoD was buggy for 2 friends that I was with too, so again... just figured it was things being buggy. Hope ya get it figured out.
 
Ok I have been able to log on ok and I fixed my zone crash issue by changing some options...I still get 1017 every once in awhile but I will log in usally 1 out of every 5 so I got it down to a ok standard...better then clicking it for a half hour before it finally works =( If any one can come up with a good soulution I would really like it :D

BTW Thank you Jinx for that post I am reading all the way through it and bascially trying everything on it...havent found any thing that works but there are some good Ideas on here and Cal sorry I was in a bad mood =S
 
well, could be coincidence, but i have been absolutely riddled and plagued witht he 1017 error... I read the forums and finally got to one about disabling the firewall... the instant i did that and clicked connect... i was in... no problem... hopefully itll stay that way... if not, guess its back to basics... lets mess with some coding :p :911:
