AE rain, idle thoughts

How overpowering would it be to increase the max targets for rains from 2 to 3? I have no idea, that's why I'm asking!

Speaking from player (mage) perspective, it would be huge. Who else can do 400+ dps on TWO targets at once?
If rains were to hit three targets, their manacost would have to be increased as well, which would make them more situational. And considering that using rains instead of nukes is better dps and best aggro control for a mage, I don't think anyone would want that.
How many times do you actually fight 3+ mobs at once in xp groups and raids?

While a change to 3 would make me SQUEEE like a little fangirl, I'm going to have to concur with tink, it would be pretty ludicrously overpowered based on how the game is atm.

It's fairly surprising but since the addition of our archaic, and the monster summoning fix (and if you're not using it as a mage, you should be, even just for the temporary tank panic aspect) I've been pretty pleased with our dps as a class. We do our thing, wizzies do theirs.

Though in groups pretty often. The only time I really end up fighting one mob anymore in groups is in cmal3 or bloodfire, and even then it's usually 2-4 at a time. HHK for instance is always usually 3-15, and a lack of that number usually prompts me to go pull some myself (basement is a bit different as we all know).

Raids it depends on where. But it's not nearly as common. Though I'd imagine with decent tomes done more 3pulls could be done, no one bothers though because the max you're doing is against 2, unless its a pb fest, then by all means 6 if they could be done (though the only place I'm thinking 6 would be possible in a raid is for mobs that spawn adds, or back content that you're significantly overtiered for)

The thing non-mages like myself wonder is like, the word "rain" implies a lot of targets. It would probably unbalance some stuff but 2 targets so doesn't sound like a rain, idk.

Not to derail the thread but...

I know that the AE rains have a lower % chance to crit, but does anyone have the solid numbers as to how the AA's effect the rains?

Thanks,

As per Tinkaa:

Rains do 3 waves of damage each time to maximum of 2 mobs.
They won't hit pvp players if you're not pvp.
They cause less aggro than direct nukes, but have lower chance to crit.
You can use as many rains in a single area as you want.

Well, as long as our thoughts are idle.

Do rains still hit you and/or your pet?

If I, my pet and two mobs are there, and it only hits two targets...will it just hit the mobs?

Rains don't hit your pet. They only hit you if you stand in their range (at mob's feet).

Or if you cast at a mob and it dies, the rain comes back at Mage.

Or sometimes when a Mob dies to a rain you some times will get the last tick of the Rain back on the Mage.

Its a good idea if your rain hasn't stoped, but just side step a little just to avoid a possible rain on yourself.

Edit: Totaly don't want to see rains beome 3 targets :( On live Rains were basicly useless most of the time. I dont want to see that happen here.

They do. Iirc it's significantly lower. I think brandar had specifics, but I haven't seen him around in a while. Mages also have no innate crit, we have to wait until searfire and aa's to crit at all.
