additional crit strike % for various weapons

I was wondering if the idea of giving certain weapons additional % chance to crit had ever been tossed around; I just thought it might be a cool thing that would lend personality to a weapon, like the Hypodermic Hook drop from war zones or the cleric Hammer with their increased proc chance
 
I'm not sure I get your question but i thought this was already the case and that different weapons had different proc rates.
 
He means having a weapon that affects crits other than crit strike, such as:

1) extra rolls for checking for crit (a free 20% crit chance roll before the usual check, or roll twice )

2) +x% mod to current chance to crit (If it has a +50% mod and I have 18% crit chance normally, the weapon will have a 27% crit chance, boosting the power of Crit Strike gear)

3) stackable crit chance (like crappy ratio but +40% crit strike making me go from 18% to 58% chance to crit)

4) Turn crits into a different multiplier for that weapon (2.5 or 3x base damage)

Lots of different ways that could be fun, but something to make weapons more interesting without necessarily increasing their power.

Sounds neat but such effects would be invisible on the items themselves, and increasing the ratio sounds like a much, much easier and less confusing/obscure way to accomplish the same effects (more damage).

neatness is great though! why not just display a weapon's extra crit potential like any other piece of gear with +crit
 
couldnt you just add it to the bottom of items. like the devs started doing way back when for spell effect descriptions.

In fact. couldn't you use that same box at the bottom to just write down stuff like the hidden 1h-blunt mod, so players could actually see it.

Maybe it could be put in the Item name ... kinda like Pristine weapons do now

Could come up with titles for them such as

Vorpal For +% crits
Gleaning for a free chance to crit
Deadly for better multiplier

So instead of Sword of Slaying
you could have
Sword of Slaying (Vorpal +5) or +4 or +20 or whatever
Sword of Slaying (Gleaning 20%)
Sword of Slaying (Deadly x3)

A certain magical item wishes to disagree with you. Atleast it does when you inspect it

More importantly: If you dont inspect every single item you get ever you suck

Well, how about if you wanna add additional things that don't display correctly, I know for a fact you can add things into identify messages. It would kinda suck the first time something drops to not know the hidden effects cause you cant use identify on it yet, but its about the only way i can think of doing it with our current system

I always did wish that Lore descriptions were used more
 
ID just about anything in pofire. I think comercy is pretty heavy on em too.


Some days if I get bored I just add random descriptions to 10 or 20 items too.
 
I used to play a different game (a really bad one) years ago that used a + crit damage mod, separate from + crit % chance. Maybe something like this could be considered, such as:

Vorpal, Bane of the Jaberwock
[MAGIC ITEM] [LORE ITEM] [BIND ON EQUIP]
Slot: PRIMARY SECONDARY
Skill: 1H Slash Atk Delay: 22
DMG: 8 AC: 10
STR: +1 STA: +1 AGI: +1 HP: +15
FR: +5
Critical Damage: +5%
Weight: 2.8 Size: Small
Class: WAR PAL RNG SHD BRD ROG
Race: ALL

If a normal hit is up to 100%, and a normal crit is up to 200%, and a cleansing blow from a pally is up to 300%, then with this weapon a normal crit would be up to 205%, and a cleansing blow would be up to 305%

I'm not totally sure that crits and cleansing blows and that base potential, it was just a guess.

I'm also not sure that such a specific increase to overall crit damage potential is possible, maybe all you can really do it double or triple, etc, idk.

May the way of the Hero lead to the... wait, what game was this again? o_O
