Account name/PW screen freezes

Hi, I've dabbled in SoD off and on and never really had any trouble getting it to work.

However, this time, when I get to the login screen (running through sodpatcher.exe) I get completely stuck when I put in my PW and username. The game will just slow up horribly bad (ie it can take minutes to respond to a single mouse movement). I can't tab out and I can't kill the program with control-alt-delete. The only thing I can do is reset my computer.

I've done some searching and haven't found anything that seems to address this issue.

I've checked eqhost.txt, it's correct.

I've repatched all and that didn't help.

I've tried running the game with EQW enabled and disabled. I've tried running it with EQPN enabled and disabled.

I've downloaded the .NET framework.

Anyways, any help with this issue would be very much appreciated, thanks!

EDIT: I also made sure that after I downloaded EQ and patched EQ all the way up to and including LDoN I ran a thorough file check.

Ok, semi fixed this problem - by alt enter to minimize EQ, that made it not slow down so much, as well as copying a working version from my roommate.

It's so weird though, now I just get "can't connect (1001)" messages either at the login screen or server select screen. Also at both the login and server select screens, there is still a very noticeable slow down in the program's running (it runs normally before the login screen).

The odd thing though is, my rommate can connect just fine, and her computer is connected to the same router as mine (we both have fairly similar PCs, same OS (win XP), and are both connected via wired access).

Maybe you have a firewall enabled (like Window's default one (which sucks (a lot (no really, it does)))).

Firewall is off :(

I guess I might try reformatting (so fun)

*bump*

Still haven't gotten anything to work...

I tried vanilla EQ and connecting with a trial account. It worked fine. As soon as I set up and tried SoD, same thing - super slowdown at the login screen and eventually comes up with error 1001 - can't connect. I'm about to try formatting my drive and reinstalling everything, but I'm really hoping someone here will have something for me to try!

The only thing I can suggest is to delete your eqfolder and copy over your roommate's. I really don't think it will work, but it sounds a lot like you have an antivirus, firewall, netlimiter, download accelator, etc. etc. blocking it. Try shutting down programs one at the time and see what works out.
