Welcome, welcome to account drive 2011! I am doing things a little more streamlined and scientific this year so bare with me!

First and foremost observe:

Referals


This is a list of all the unique visitors coming into the SoD site from different referring sites all over the internet. As you can see right now Something Awful and Fark are at the top of the list - two places where we currently have advertisements running.

The concept of this years account drive is this. Make a post, buy an advertisement, upload naked pictures with SoD all over your body... whatever you want wherever you want... and I will give you 1 fame point per unique visitor that comes to our site between Feb 9th, 2011 and March 15th, 2011.

I did a small test run of this in Loose Platinum - and have given out quite a bit of fame already. That Fark number above was a certain member putting up a classified there.

This is by far the biggest fame offering given the amount of time and effort that it takes to smack our name someplace. The best part is the smarter you are about placement the more fame you get - no more spamming willy nilly all over the place!


Rules?! RULES:

  • The website must WANT us there. If there are rules against advertising or advertising game mods specifically do not post!
  • If you cheat and try to proxy a bunch of unique views I will trace back IPs and ban you as hard as I possibly can.
  • Using tricks to get people to click your ad is not allowed! No free Ipod banners people.
  • No spamming! If someones posted a thread on a forum do not post another one!
  • The final say in how many referrals gained by any particular person is Google Analytics! If the website tells you you have a million clicks and Analytics only shows 500 then we are going with 500. I will be publishing unedited PDFs straight from analytics to make sure everyone is on the same page. (For some reason with google adwords they charge you for clicks of your ad that do not show up as hits to us. I had 400 clicks on my google ad and only 230 actually went through to our site. Beware this sort of thing!)


Once you make an advertisement or whatever it is your planning to do you can either claim credit here in this thread (recommended to avoid confusion) OR send me a PM with the information. The PM option is there for people who have small communities that they do not want to have published on the SoD forums.

Finally if you are able please use the following. This is especially important if your using a ad service where more than one person may use it:
"http://www.shardsofdalaya.com/?referrer=YOURNAME". Simply write in your character name and mention it in your post or pm so that we know who is who!

Good luck to everyone! I am scared to hell that there will be some outright titles from this but well I am a sucker for account drives. I will post biweekly reports from google analytics so everyone can keep up their progress!


Addendum: I am spicing things up! The top referrer will also get a Lucky Charm of Power on the character of their choice!

Addendum 2: I am adding a lottery for 3 Boxes of Angry Halflings, 2 Melwins Idols and 2 cash pot of 15,000 platinum that will be lotteried out to ANYONE who participates! Even if you only get one referral you are equally in this drawing!

Edit: I am up to 50 hits almost. Google is getting expensive :p Time to come up with new ideas

Just so people get an idea how easy it is to get fame from this so far Naragako has gotten:

60 from OnRPG
11 from MMOHUT
3 from MMOGamesite

and Harlan has gotten 48 from his google referrals.

Those of you who have done this before will still get fame for that which was done before - but this is the first 1-1 unique visitor to fame ratio offer and is the first race to a lucky charm. Only contributions in the 2 weeks can go towards the lucky charm.
 
Just some friendly advice to you other posters:

When you make a long post describing the game in great detail, they will be less likely to click the link to sod.com because they will already have all the information they need.

What you want to do is give people a little bit of information, make it exciting or intriguing, then give the link. This is because you want them to be interested in learning more about the game, and to get this information they'll have to click your link, instead of just reading it off your post.


Also, my 3 friends that started playing during this account blitz are already past lvl 30!

I searched before I posted and didn't see yours..

Anyways, I would have used my direct referral, but being as there was no other posts on the site at the time I felt it was unnecessary.

My suggestion is that if you're not the first to post claiming a site, then you should use your referral code. In cases where this happens, the first person to post in claim on the sod site should get credit for unspecified hits. In this case, being as there is no rule set up, maybe we should split the hits.. but I still felt I searched before I posted and saw nothing, and my post only took 30 seconds to write :).

Anyways, sorry ours got posted so soon after one another :/
