Accidentally giving quest items to pets

Is it possible to stop people giving quest items to pets

This isn't as stupid as it sounds because, for example, I was boxing and giving the knife of madness to the mobs in Miel C. In the midst of frantically togging between my two toons gave the knife to somebody else's pet rather than the high animator it was intended for.

I know other people who have made the same mistake and I believe one person actually gave his combine armor to his pet while not concentrating.

Ideally, all quest items, high tier armor and weapons could be tagged as 'nopet' items as well as nodrop.

This would save embarassment and GM irritation.

As always just a suggestion, don't know how difficult it would be to implement.

I know the feeling bud, happened to most pet classes before. I when went to make my turn in of combine breastplate, instead of giveing it to the Air Elemental in Prison entrance, i gave to my relic pet... 3 years ago... Oh well... sucks but happens, once it happens first time, u be more aware everytime.

Good luck

what if we added a dialog box with the pet's name, and made you agree that you were absolutely sure you wanted to give that item to the pet before it left your inventory and went into theirs?

Well, it was an interesting challenge considering that I have never coded anything before, but I think I have it all figured out. While I was poking around in the game code I also noticed a few inefficient lines that were requiring us to take the ENTIRE server down to patch and deleted them, so I was able to hotfix this live:

"Tricksey Dev'ssses" I was talking about your special awesomesauce from your previous post --- specifically something that screams at you that you've accidentally targeted a pet.

and made you agree that you were absolutely sure you wanted to give that item to the pet

NGL this would be awesome. i gave my pet my inherited founders amntle some time ago and it angered me to no end.

Stop being lazy and look before you hit the button.

I have never had this happen to me, but there have been a couple of close calls. They were only saved by taking a second look. Unfortunately, there are distractions in life and otherwise, and it would be nice to have the same sort of pop up window like you get with No Drop stuff, to trigger that..."Uh, what?" Reflex, and make you look again.

The OP put this in as a S&R and some of us are just trying to support the idea. Sorry if you thought we were being lazy. (Which especially hurts btw, coming from a Sloth)

Leaks.

There is no such thing as a 'quest item'. ANY item can at any time be made into a quest item at the whim of a dev. Weapons your pet can equip can be, and in a few cases people don't know about are in fact 'quest items'. We are also limited by the client in the obnoxious pop ups we can display, so adding anything new like that would be pretty impossible.

Best we could do is display bright yellow text about the consequences of your actions. Of course we DO that for the 'turn in a bag to upgrade it' part of the MQ and still get weekly petitions about that so... probably no winning this one.

Displaying any sort of warning would rock, tho mages who die a lot may not be as happy

Thank you for considering this.

Why don't you just look at the top of the give window and see what the name says. I find it incredibly unlikely that every time this mistake has happened the pet was named the same thing as the quest npc.

high animator's pet got me during the knife part of the vah ;lol

These really are the only ones I truly feel bad about. There was one that was literally perfectly long to cut of "'s pet". I ended up changing the name.

We can not really edit the client to change this.

Then its a breakthrough! Wiz (or some coder) tried it once but it was so buggy and inconsistent that it was deemed untenable.

My fingers are crossed. Will be a nice fix.
