Able to suggest any stand-up comics?

I've been really getting into stand-up comedy lately (been doing some talent shows at school) and I'm wanting some suggestions on some really good comics to check into seeing. I've already seen both of Lewis Black's Comedy Central Stand-ups along with a few others, but hey it's always good to learn about more.

Margaret Cho is great. I also kind of like Dane Cook but it's kind of immature.

Lisa Lampanelli is the shit. Except if you're one of those people that can't take racist joke or a lot of cussing.

Patton Oswalt
Greg Berehndt (sp?)
David Cross

There's a swarm of others, but I don't want to list 'em all now. I can provide albums if there's adequate interest--I really like standup :3

Dave Chapelle
The Amazing Jonathan
Steve Martin
Robin Williams (early 80's when he was still on coke and funny)
Larry Miller
Bill Cosby (again, early 80's stand-up)

ZOMG

Any who know him might think this odd of me, since I'm probably the most "G"-rated member of Final Empire, but let me say just one thing:

Eddie Izzard

Which would you choose: "Cake or Death?"

WTF...

George Carlin can not be overlooked. He is brilliant.

I agree with the David Cross suggestions as well. He's nearly as bitter and mean as ol' George. :)

I'd never been to his site until I went looking for it so I could link it in this thread. Check it out, imp, it's Hilarious.

Mitch Hedburg was great... Dane Cook seems to have recently become hugely popular, but I personally don't like his new stuff (Retaliation) very much. Being a Canadian, I watch a lot of Just for Laughs, which not surprisingly stars Canadian comedians on a regular basis. 2 of my favouritse are Jeremy Hotz and David Nystrom.

^^ titus is hilarious, its a shame his show got cancelled

I think that to be a sucessful stand up comedian you need to be 1.) fresh and 2.) original

try not to rely on the styles of other comedians, otherwise you come off just looking like a dude trying to be a comedian.

if anything, watch as much professional comedy as possible then do something that you havent seen before

but make sure its funny
