So as the server general population gets "top heavy", more and more toons just don't exp any more because they're at 50+ tomes and basically have nothing to do. I was really happy to see Glorax log in the other day, and saddened to see him ask if there was anything for him to do, then log off half an hour later.
I've seen a couple of threads with suggestions (including one official thread which I'm not trying to upstage and probably should have tried to find instead posting here.) At least to me, who's been playing the game for a couple of years, and by all accounts is terrible at it, the problem with these suggestions seem to be they don't progress the character. They don't make the character stronger/better/more fun to play.
The other side of the issue seems to be that the normal progression of the game (levels then AA's then codexes then tomes) could/should not be altered for whatever new system takes it's place. Eventually the final solution to this problem is that whatever system is put in place should be renewable, so that we're not having this same damn discussion in a year.
So I've talked to a couple players about this. And by a couple I mean about 20. MOST of the talking has been to Xaltec, but there's some other cats around who'll remain nameless unless they want to chime in here.
Idea:
You walk to this NPC. Hail Npc.
NPC says "Ituk, you have 50+ tomes done and full AAs. Maybe you should go outside, or shower, or something." Ituk says "Nah, bro. My IRL friend just rolled his first SoD character and I'd like to exp with him. Give me an excuse to keep playing this bad game I love like heroin."
NPC gives you a Lifesucking Phylactery of X Stat (Neck/ring/wrist/ear/ammo whatever). You equip it. Once it's full of exp or leveled, you give it back to him, and are awarded with a single/five stat points.
Now, personally, I think this amount of exp should be in the tome/codex ball park. I know that sounds soul crushing but it'll maintain the "intended order" of the exp heirarchy. It'll also give peeps a reason to do overcap tomes that they might not touch.
Caveot emptor here: I'm not a dev, and really, I have no concept of balancing etc. I'm barely an "active" raider. I don't know the limitations of the client as far as increasing the stats of this toon or that toon. (I mean, you can do it at character generation so I assume it's possible, if not mindcrunchingly difficult to code.)
Just my 2 cents. Thanks to the staff for making such a fun game that my 150 days of play may one day hit a ceiling I don't want to exist. Thanks everyone else. Please proceed to ridicule this suggestion relentlessly and troll the OP. - Ituk
