Yeah, most peeps head to north newport. The common dungeons after that are black burrow, warrens, then warpstone caverns to get you started. There are Others with better xp/farmed gear, but you might have to put the group together yourself.
If you like an adventure, look up fearstone, shrouded isle, runnyeye citadel, and maybe oggok mines. I can say the first three are more palatable with a group, though soloable with care. I am embarrassed to say I haven't had a chance to do much in Oggok mines so can't really say.
