A "gem" of a concept

Ok, I do jewellery on one of my toons and really enjoy it. I have found one possible flaw though. Silver jewellery and electrum jewellery seem to end up being priced due to their gem more than the metal. Metal at that level is cheap but the gems are the same as used for higher stones.

My concept is this, make 2 levels of gems. The low level could be a gem shard, such as a Jasper Shard. This could be used with an enchanted silver bar to make the same ring as now but cut the price to 1/3 for the shard. What was one plat becomes 3 gold. These shards could only be used for silver jewellery (maybe electrum also but I would worry about making Jewellery to cheap too do.) This lowers the price of gettting into jewellery without making it so cheap that it is unbalancing. A second effect is that silver jewellery becomes a little more affordable to the newbies.

Math wise

Silver bar (6g) + jasper (8g) = 2 wis ring for 1.4p, charge 2-3p to make up for losses

Suggested Math
Silver Bar (6g) + jasper shard (2.7g) = 2 wis ring for just under 9g

Thanks for reading this, hope I did not ramble too much.

Maybe make a jewlelry recipe that lets you split one gem in 4 shards with a low quality gem cutter in your jeweler kit (with a low trivial).

The gem cutter would be reusable and sold at jewler shop for 1 pp.
