61+ Spell Alternative

After trying to find the mob drop spells for a while in the current economy it has dawned on me that perhaps we need a change. Since spells are so hard to find and purely based on luck perhaps we could implement alternative ways to get them.

One idea would be to create a new bounty merchant for each class and have it that way using R1 or R2 bounty token .

Another idea is based on the current system for relics and ancients where you grt a quest item and get one of your missing spells in return. The loot would require group or high tier friendly in one of the 65 exp zones such as MielC. To prevent exploiting for profit the loot is no drop, and a no drop version of the scroll is created as well.

I do not intend this suggestion to go to any ancients or other raid required spell type. Just an alternative way to acquire what is required for pre-raid progression.

This suggestion shouldn't hurt the current economy and spell drops would still be benefitial due to faster speed via listsold luck.

Bring in Researching from EQlive for ALL CLASSES 61+ spells. That way it's equally as annoying, if not more so to get spells, but you wouldn't require having to farm cata or deeper mielc or whatnot which newbies have issues doing cause mobs there like to pew pew you not in the face, but in the crotch.

Also, I dunno why people just vendor spells right now. There seems to be a fairly large market for them, yet I check the vendors all the time to see em for sale. So I just buy them and hand them out in DB /gu, /auc for free, or put em on listsold for discounted prices and then advertise.

I didn't include Researching because of all the extra work required. There are tradeskills needing revamping, and didn't want to make it harder. That said I can see the reason to do it.

Because listsold is horribly flawed. Because vendoring is instant plat for splits. Name your reason.

Personally, I like the idea of less RNG (i.e., researching to create specific spells rather than farming drop 1 out of 120) -- but I'm not sure this is a problem outside of folk who level really fast -- I've been playing an alt paladin on and off for a couple of months now and by just checking athica vendors whenever I pass through I have all but 2 of his 61-65 spells, and he's only lvl 27 -- maybe I've just been lucky?

In addition, there's a lot of places where fresh 65's can farm spells (and exp they probably need) already.

You should write out that list.

1) Because it's been so long since being a fresh 65, my old age is starting to take it's toll, so the old brain is having issues remembering where these locations are.

1a) It would also help new fresh 65's know where to farm.

2) So I could have something to mindlessly farm to help out instead of harassing Prokin in tells to kill pixels with me.

3) To become the benevolent god of DB.

4) ??

Nagthilian B is going to have super high spell drop rates because it is where the caster guilds are located. Problem solved. Though I guess since that is never going to happen the idea of casters guilds wanting some item from somewhere (you know, for magic experiments) in exchange for the advanced spells makes about a million billion times more sense than some shitty monster in a dank dungeon having a spell scroll more advanced than anything the master magicians hanging out in the floating building full of teleporters can muster.

Been meaning to improve the leveling guides on the wiki, I'll have to add a section on 61-65 spell hunting. Part of the problem is the way spells are listed on wiki doesn't have separate pages for the actual scrolls -- meaning its hard to add to loot tables.

This is not a problem. Not everything is supposed to be given to you the moment you reach 65.

Go kill in mielechC if you want low end spells.
Go kill in catacombs if you want higher level spells

Yeah! That teach those fucks who want to play on this server. You think you can just get access to your class abilities through quest items or bounties like the OP suggested in an era where the vast majority of games automatically give you skills or you go to your trainer and pay next to nothing? DO YOU MAGGOT?! Prepare to waste your life away in a dungeon hoping RNG starts giving you what you want. Spent more time than is worth it (literally seconds) parsing through the crappy substitute bazaar system. You cry babies think this is some kind of game? This server is work you bastards so you better get with the pr... wait! Why are you leaving? Don't go. Come back!

you wont be missed friend. the door is there. stop trolling the forums and either do something for the newbies (like give them the spells you get) or leave. This guy is in my guild and i have funded 2 guilds worth of spells from spells i've kept instead of selling them for a quick profit.

maybe its the current player base that isn't helping the new guys.......

Maybe it is some people who never miss a chance to share their toxic and counterproductive ideas about how nothing should change and nothing is a problem. It was flattering to be called a troll by the king of the trolls though, thanks for that.

Couple of people have the right idea, though Haenir probably hit the nail on the head. The instant cash for selling the spells for split and the tedium of the listsold system are probably what make spells seem so rare. I will only bother keeping a spell and putting it on listsold if I know the spell is class defining. Cata is mostly good money because of the spells drops and having to wait 2 weeks + for my split sounds like a nightmare.

The other problem is people race to 65 to play with the majority of the community when there is a fair amount of value staying in the 55 area. I stay at 55 for 50-100aas on all of my characters and in that time I usually get all my 61+ spells, money for BoEs and enough AAs to continue onto 65 leveling areas without a big drop in productivity or efficiency. The jump from 55 to 65 is pretty noticeable and if you dont have cash, experience or friends then there stands a solid chance that you might still have leather on in some gear slots.

The 55-57 adepts are good gear, go down regularly, help train you for the raiding scene and help get your name out there and make friends. The 55 range has a wide number of zones, several of them giving pretty solid cash, many of them having gear that is reliably obtainable and very good (MielB comes to mind). Your first 50aas are gained at reduced exp cost and when you get to 65 with a little gear, money, most of your spells, 50aa and some friends this game is a lot more fun. Most of the people I see race to 65 in a week or two are the ones who burn out because this game is filled with many many glass ceilings.

Now having another way to obtain spells other than RNG drop would pretty much mean removing the spell drops. I know I would never buy a spell again if I could quest for it no matter how irritating it was and I believe so would pretty much anyone with access to a ringer. The only people who would buy the listsold spells would be people who never read the forums/wiki/patch notes or are new to the server and I am pretty sure that would make spells even more overpriced than the already wildly overpriced shit on listsold.

When I first started and bitched about prices/rarity of spells I was told by the community at large (and several GMs) that the most effective means of getting spells was to religiously check Ath Inn/bar/blacksmith vendors, Thurg vendors near the bounty house or anywhere else that people congregate and they were right. It might take you a month or more but you come out with all your spells and usually do it for well under 5kpp.

Another way might be to join a guild. I know my guild usually keeps the 64-65 spells we find raiding for new guild members or alts.

Remember: This game is about the struggle. Once you have it all you just sit on these forums trolling and flaming wishing you could quit this game.

So the current system is so bad that any other option would completely replace it and a good way to obtain your spells is logging on to vendor dive for a month? I'm starting to suspect something about this game causes a very specific kind of brain damage that kills the fun center or crosses the wires over to the monotony gland.

Look if I'm not 65+ and tier 13 in a month, the game just isn't worth playing.
If you were not any of these things you would not even play because you would be playing alone. And why would you play a team dependent game alone? That's silly

nobody in my guild is playing alone.
