Zoning problems

Hi there, I just started playing the other day with some friends. Ever since I began I have been having problems zoning. My problem is exactly the same every time and as follows:

I zone. I get disconnected. I cannot reconnect. I close EQ. I re-run the patcher. It gets stuck at "Getting file list". I try to reopen and reclose the patcher for a good 10 minutes and it does the same thing. Eventually I can get the file list and get into EQ. I log in, the EQ exe crashes. I repatch, relogin and I'm fine.

Anyone else having a similar problem?

Heh at least you can get back in. I run into that same problem, but I'm never able to log back into that character once they are in the zone I went LD in. If you find a solution make sure to post it. I have mentioned it several times, but no one else has seemed to have the problem.

Firstly, make sure you don't have texture caching on (you have to open your eqclient.ini file in your SoD directory to change it).
Texture caching makes you crash alot more while zoning I've noticed.
I've had it where eqclient.ini crashes while I'm logging back in, but I assumed it was because I was running it under Cedega in Linux.
I don't use their patcher, I use the wget script, so I don't know if I have the rest of the issue as well.

I can almost garuntee it has nothing to do with texture caching and the like.
When it happens, it says "You have been disconnected" and I cannot log back in. When it happens, I can also not view the website www.shardsofdalaya.com. I have to wait about 10-15 min, then I am able to re-patch and reconnect. It happens when it zone, and it also happens when I try to load up another player, which is odd becuase the first night I played I was able to box a second character without any problems.

You may be having router problems.
Set your computer up on DMZ host.
The reason this may be happening, is that the router disconnects you on your isde, but the SoD server thinks you are possibly still connected, keeping you from reconnecting.

I'm having a similar problem.

About 50% of the time, when I zone, it sends me back to either the server select or back to the log in screen. When I log back in, I am still in any groups I was in and everything, I was wondering if there was a way to fix this?

I am not on a router, and I have all of the latest drivers for everything.
I also tried turning off TextureCaching, I seem to crash the same ammount with it on as I do off.

Also, sometimes when trying to relog after this it will crash EQ all together.

Any ideas would be welcome as I am willing to try anything to fix this annoying problem.

*EDIT*
Also, it doesn't give me the YOU HAVE BEEN DISCONNECTED. message, it just boots me back to login or server select.
I can usually log back in immediately, not really a MAJOR problem, as I can usually get back in with little problem, just a VERY big annoyance.

I am also having this problem. So far every time but one when I zoned I'd get disconnected and be unable to reconnect for some time. It seems like repatching to the main eq thing will allow me to reconnect but of course that takes a long time.

I'm playing on a dorm network right now, so I guess that might be part of the problem. If it is i don't suppose theres anything i can do about it, eh?

I'm also in the dorms and have the zone connection problem. The only work-around I've found is to go the library (I play on a laptop) and use that connection, for some reason I don't get any disconnects or zoning problems there. What I figure is that the library isn't blocking certain ports that the dorms are, or simply because it's higher bandwidth there. Not sure if this would be the same on your campus.

In my group of myself and 2 friends, we have a lot of crashing on zoning problems too. Each of us is playing 2 toons from 2 different accounts. One of us has absolutely no problems and never crashes. I have problems about 50-60% of the time.. usually one toon or the other will crash (zoning at same time, different times, doesn't seem to matter)... and my other friend crashes about 95% of the time... seriously.

I think we've narrowed down the 95% crasher to be a problem with his cable modem/router ... they're pretty old, and we all crash when at his house. But my problems... they may be hardware related as I'm not playing on the strongest box... and honestly the other night we played for quite some time, and while it took a long time to zone sometimes, I don't think I ever crashed.

Basically, I would agree that it's likely the internet connection (be it the actual pipe coming in, a router, a switch, etc. I dunno) is probably the culprit.
