Zoning leads to terrible lag

Has anyone had this problem, or know what might be causing it? Sometimes I have no problems zoning or with my connection to the SoD server, but other times when I zone it takes longer than normal, and once I load into the new zone I have like 90% PL, the lag bar is going crazy, etc. Sometimes zoning takes so long because of this lag that I have to ctrl+alt+del and end the task. It's only been happening today, so maybe there's something wrong with my internet, I guess I'll have to wait and see if it keeps reocurring?

I live in a college dorm, so I don't know what kind of firewall settings etc they have running, that might be a problem.

I tried relogging, like ~10 times, and that didn't fix it.

edit: Yeah it's still happening today. First time loading I was at the EverQuest load screen for like 7 minutes before it actually loaded me into zoneA, in wich I had this terrible lag, probably 1minute delay. So I run in to zoneline to zoneB, the client takes 2 minutes before it realizes I'm on a zoneline and comes up with LOADING. Then I get a normal load time, 2 minutes or so, and I'm in zoneB with no lag... So I think OK now it's working, I zone back into zoneA, again it takes like 5+ minutes, and once I'm in I have terrible lag, I leave it alone for about 10 minutes hoping the lag will go away, but then I got disconnected.

I've done some experimenting. I seem to be able to zone into Valley of Erimal without any problems consistently, but if I try and zone into the Warrens I'll lag out everytime. So apparently there's some difference between these two zones and the lag they create?? Also, as I mentioned in my first post, I live on campus, so these problems are from in my dorm, but if I take my laptop to the library and play SoD there it works fine... I can zone into Warrens or anything else and not have any PL or extraneous lag. Anyone have any ideas why this might be?

A lot of people do in fact have problems regarding specifik zones. I've never experienced them myself, but try looking through the last three pages of tech support and see if any of the advices help.

Another thing to try, if you are using windows mode, is to hit alt+enter to reset your video. That was a problem on EQLive with the dx8 engine, and we've found the same problem here. If we reset video fairly frequently (we usually do it every half hour or so) we don't lag out as much and don't have as much trouble zoning.

I have that problem in Mielech sometimes.

I used to avoid Mielech for that very reason! I have found that If I avoid the misty/jungle zones (IE: Greenmist/Stinger's Bog) with 2 toons at once and relog my computer once at my final destination it "fixes" the problem.

It seems I have it for only certain zones as well, except when I'm on the library connection. The only thing I can figure is that since the library has much higher bandwidth it can deal with whatever is causing the lag in the zones that wouldn't work when I'm in my dorm? *shrug* I'll just play from the library I guess!
