Yet Another Error 1001 Thread...

Teluh

Dalayan Beginner
First off, sorry. I know there are already threads about this, (I've looked through a lot of them...) but none seem to help me out. I played SoD a bit a few years back and decided to start up again! However I hit a brick wall with the Error 1001. Everything goes good up until the login screen where I encounter it. So any ideas?

Also I noticed a lot of the other threads requested

pathping -n www.shardsofdalaya.com >> output.txt
ping www.shardsofdalaya.com >> output.txt

from a command prompt so here's mine.

Any firewalls, or antivirus, or supremely locked down routers?
1st) Disable all your software firewalls, they are useless anyways. If you use avg, disable its firewall also (sometimes it turns back on after updates).
2nd) Then try disabling the antivirus software itself, especially if it is Norton. (Invasive crap, not sure why anyone pays for that shit.)
3rd) If those don't work, check to see if your router is locking it down. Allot of routers made today can allow you to set an IP pr site as safe, and then it will allow traffic to and from it. If not, you would have to enable the ports for it, good luck on that, it doesn't use the same port(s), it has a large range it chooses from.

I have no Firewalls and only use AVG, which in my attempts to get SoD to work I've just uninstalled it for the time being.

Now for the router I have some small time company called Shantel that uses the Arris TM602G/115 Modem. And as far as I can tell I can't change any settings on it. I've tried using the generic 192.168.1.1 and used the command prompt to find my default gateway, and neither worked. So is there nothing else? Maybe some way to change settings without a browser or anything like that?

If it is just the company modem, then no, you won't be able to do anything with it, and it shouldn't be firewalled anyways. After unistalling avg, did you try also unistalling and re-installing eq/sod? If you used disks and not the free download, that could be the issue, as original eq was infamous for having install issues with anti-virus running.

So I did a fresh install and still the same issue, Error 1001 at the same point... Out of desperation I also tried to just right click my connection a choose repair, but zilch.

1001 errors at log-in are classicly a firewall issue.. did you disable the windows firewall also? If that is disabled also, i don't know. sorry. :(

Yeah, my windows firewall is off. Thanks a lot anyway. If I figure out something I'll post back for others.

Did you look at Windows Firewall Settings?

Start > Run > Firewall.cpl

One test would be to disable it in the General Tab. If that works then you might need to dig further into the other tabs to see what you have or don't have setup.

------------------------ Scratch above, didn't see your message before I saved that -------------------------

Also check your LAN settings. Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections Tab > LAN Settings --- Any proxies running?

After that, if it was me, I'd try running SoD on another PC (or take your PC to another house/location whatever is easiest in your situation) to see if it happens on more than 1 PC in your house or if you PC works from another location.

Is this a laptop or a desktop? If its a laptop a good easy test would be to try connecting to SoD from a friends connection that works with SoD. You could do the same with a desktop, but its not as easy to move it. This will tell you whether its the PC or the connection causing the issue.
