XP and Buffs

So I was playing a twink for fun the other day. As I normally do, I buffed him out to give him a better chance of survival. Let's face it, groups are hard to come by sometimes. At any rate, I actually managed to find a group at one point and wracked up some decent xp. Now, an interesting thing happened. I was just starting off at level 18, I was grouped with a level 20 druid. Shortly into the group (5 or so kills), the druid hit 21. Some time later, the same druid dinged 22. No one had died, and I was sitting at lvl 18, aprox. 70-80% into the level. Racial xp mods don't come close to answering this so I thought, 'hey, maybe it's my buffs?'. I clicked off all my buffs and just stuck with what little buffs my group could provide. I started gaining xp at the same rate as the rest of the members of my party.

Now, my questions is thus: Was it the fact that my twink was given buffs far outside his level range? Or was it the mere fact that he had buffs from someone outside my group?

Could someone shed some light on this please?

I'm still confused by how xp works in SoD. A while back, at around 20 ish went into the warrens with a 19(again, ish) monk and a 17 cleric (other people outside of this range joined in for short periods here and there, but we were there, the three of us for a good eight hours or so, maybe more) By the time we came out, the cleric and the monk both gained 5 levels each while I think I leveled maybe twice.

I was under the impression that xp worked on a basis of the highest level in the group, divided by two and then handed out as a percentage and not a number, with any xp modifiers coming in after this. I'm just generaly confused by xp><

Wiz has been out of town, which is the reason there hasn't been a reply. He's the only person that can give a definite yes or no answer on this.

I'm leaning towards yes. I too noticed this, and it certainly can't be a co-incidence.

Actually, when I was "experiencing" this, I just figured they had lowered the amount of exp. solo kills gave, as a way to encourage people to group rather than solo. My suspicions were further strengthened when the exp. bonus came in, a few weeks later.

But this idea makes a lot more sense than forcing people to group just to make anywhere close to decent exp.

Edit - I was power leveling at the time and only netting 1 % per kill, whereas in a group I would get the same amount of exp. per kill. Which, all things considered, is just ridiculous. Although I don't see why I'd have clicked off my own buffs at the time, instead of buffing the whole group, which is I'm sure what I did. Interesting theory. I'm actually going to go out and say that I am in fact right, and possibly this was the change Wiz made so that solo classes weren't completely screwed.

Any ideas Wizzy poo?

There are no "hidden" experience penalties related to buffs or assistance. If it wasn't showing an assistance penalty on your screen, you weren't getting one.

Level 20 is an incredibly fast level, which accounts for most of this.
