WoW - private servers

I was thinking about WoW the other day, and was wondering if anyone has come across any private servers (or full game overhauls) that have a community similar to SoD. I imagine the vast majority of them are not worth their weight in toenails, but perhaps there's a gem like SOD out there.

I'd be interested if anyone does actually know of stable servers' it can be nice to have a goof-off day on things like that every now and then. Unfortunately, my experience when I looked in the past was always broken encounters, insane exp rates (1 week from creation to max level), and small yet horribly rude population.

i was private server hopping with my brothers for about 3 months and finally gave up last month on them.
They all have one major flaw that just kills the server in my book...

Almost all are pvp, i just wanted to raid / pve with my brothers.
Everyone seems to have a pay system, and so that just blows the pvp aspect out of proportion.
If your looking to pvp, the private servers are for you, and theirs a strong player base who do the arena stuff in them... but if you want the pve/raiding, I'd look else were....

But it was fun on one server to solo ulduar as a paly!

The biggest problem when I played them was always latency, and the world saves. The emu has probably advanced significantly from when I used it. It was really disorganized back then, bunch of different projects. I did manage to make my own server for what amounted to a lan game, and ended up rigging alot of the shaman talent tree to work.

I remember a few WoW servers that had something similar to what SoD has, but then again, last time I played them was just a few RP servers and one PvE one with special edited content. Plus most WoW servers are picky about patch types, and only some of the better ones used older patches. 'sides, it's only fun until you run out of things to do, WoW never could keep my attention for so long. Had more fun somewhat playing Shadowgate or Uninvited.

I loved/feared Uninvited as a small kid. It took me forever to find the No Ghost to kill the southern belle ghost thing. That thing killed me so much it gave me nightmares for years.

I'm sure those of us who played it the first time had no idea there was No Ghost in the first place (Much like how the spells you 'learn' from the get go are totally useless, except the Teletele or whatever that really had no useful purpose.) and lost quite a few lives to little miss Scarlet. Even now when I feel like going back on my old NES I still forget what I need to do for her, and about the spider for that chains ghost. But eh, still fun..

Now for something back on topic, last I checked UnderWorld WoW still had a nice little community for a complete redo of WoW. Not sure if they're still up or whatever server version it had. I've been on Freedom WoW mainly for RP purposes recently, but otherwise, can't help in this department.

I thought underworld was dead? At least if its the same one I'm thinking of.

*later edit owait, no it isn't. Might have to hit it up*
