WoW priave servers

Rolunaan

Dalayan Beginner
I was wondering if any one knew of any possable private WOW servers that had their Databases modded to be like EQ or if any one knew of any one working on this? I'm not looking for anything as well done or complex as Wiz's changes that he has mad Shards of dalaya int, but something some what similar would be nice.
Changes I would be referring to:
-Nothing binds
-evertying dropable but epics
-Talent Trees treated like AA's
-Non instanced dungeons
-Fast respawns in those Dungeons
-reduced drop changes on gear
-No horde alliance faction split

stuff kinda like that.

yeah I won't bother take'n random chances because 99% of wow servers including live are annoying and full of kiddies.
Would just be kinda cool if wow Had an EQ style game play

There were one or two that were relatively stable about a year ago. But last I had played them there were severe aggro problems in certain zones. They are pretty much fixable, as I did so with my own copy (turned it into basically a lan game). But finding an admin willing to keep one up and stable, as well as having the resources available to do so, with a decent player base. Good luck.

I had recently an interest in wow servers because my new laptop can graphically handle it, i did some searchs on private servers...

and...

what i found funny in all the wow servers i have browsed so far... europeans or anywhere in the world are their sentences

"one thousand player at peaks time"...

so i would like someone to explain me why everytime i click on their "server status statistics", my little eyes are seeing "online users = 66" lol... :keke:

even saw an european one claiming they had a population of 45000 players...

"statistic server link" click ^_^ ... peaks time users = 110 :toot:

"population of 45000 players" = "we have 45000 accounts registered". By those standards, SOD has like half a million players.

That's probably characters logged in, yeah. At any given time I assume about 1/3 of the server is second boxes, or that one-half of the server is two boxing.

It's closer to 25%.

Shards is so cool, it took an existing great game and made it even better. Honestly, I'm enjoying this way more than I did the Progression Server from a year and a half ago on Live. I find it hard to believe there could be anything to compare to SoD as a modded game, whether it's a wow mod or anything else. Maybe I should give more of an open mind to the private servers being referred to here, but I just can't see it happening. Although, if a wow-mod server existed with rules similar to what Rolunaan was looking for, it would probably be worth trying. Still, I can't imagine any person or group of people who would be as dedicated to creating and (infinitely more daunting) maintaining such a world as the folks here. I'm frankly still amazed at just how cool SoD is, and I wish I woulda tried it much earlier. What I'm trying to say is I love me some SoDs! Only problem is that I'm spending almost as much time playing now as I used to play Live 7-8 years ago when I was in college...except now....I'm not in college....if you know what I mean...........

Hahaha! Yea... I think we all know what you mean a little too well. :keke:

I played The Game for 2 yrs then i tried wow live, then made my own server and played it for a while, but in my OPINION WoW didnt offer what the Game did as far as content. Now that i have found SoD im so pumped to be able to play a more "adult" game if you will, which is something I felt WoW severely lacked in.

So in other words, not to step on toes or anything, WoW seemed too cartoony/childish while SoD (bless all of you who contribute to this fine game) appeals more to an older audience IMHO.

You won't be able to find a server that does that.. Their emulator was based off of just Emulating, not Modding the original game of WoW. So things like leveling, exp, all the current things, may actually be boosted, sure. But none of the actual inner-workings are going to be changed.

Ascent only allows so much. They don't even allow new zones, new spells, nothing like that.

Now maybe if theres another emulator out there that someone is using, it'll probably never happen either way. Most of the WoW servers I've been to tend to have really slack Developers that .. still have no clue of what they're doing.

Uh, in b4 editing the dbc. Also see Mangos for another emu example. It's really a shame more of them aren't better. Part of that is probably because it's just so damm easy to set up. It seriously takes longer to install the game. Like by alot. Problems like stability and lag are another matter, and worldsaves are always a bitch (frequent crashpoints).

Mangos still .. isn't really widely used. I've only played on one Mangos server. Even then .. as you said .. lag becomes an issue. Ascent servers, from my experience, have been the most stable. That's just my two cents though.
