Wizard Racial Bonus

Note: I don't want this thead to be a 'this race is more uber b/c...' thread. I'm just seeking help to analyze the damage potential of two races.

I have a gnome wizard, mainly due to the fact that gnomes previously had the most potential for damage (due to their racial bonus to increase focus effects). However, now erudites have been given a bonus that grants extra specialization. I was wondering if anyone knows what the difference is for these bonuses in the end game. I realize that the difference should be minimal but.. its always been a thing I do. I pick the character with the absolute most potential. Thanks in advance for any help.

gnome all the way. +5 specs isn't comparable to +10% item focus imo

plus gnomes are cooler by default

the only problem to that is 5 to specs adds to base dmg which then adds to focus effects so i think it will be eurdites with 20% diety alliance

edit: i dont have parser here if someone wants to run the numbers feal free i other wise when i get home thuresday ill post it

With 20% to a diety an Erudite would have a 1% bonus (AT MOST) to ALL specializations which adds to the base damage as Seferon previously stated.

As gnome would get 10% of (at most) 21% from Damage Increment 7 which is 2.1%.

Even though the Erudites add to the base damage, it would still only be 1% of 21% (1% bonus to base with DI 7 added with the 1% base) that gets increases for a total of 1.21% compared to the gnomes 2.1%.

It looks like gnomes have the advantage for nukes, but remember that Erudites get this bonus to ALL specializations.

(Note that this assumes that direct damage specialization can get up to 20% for wizards, which I believe is quite higher than it actually is. The lower the ACTUAL specialization % is, the bigger advantage the gnome player has)

Actually I believe in our calculations it was 23%.

You are thinking of the nuking specilization which was 13.6%. If you add 120% of that it still does not come close to 20% total. I was being nice to the erudites and they still fall short (on the nuking angle only).

It is harder to quantify, but the increase to focus/mind will help their resist rate and mana efficiency to a point that may rival or surpass the gnomes on a pure mana to dmg (including resits / partial resists) ratio, even if the gnomes have a slightly bigger BOOM on a full power hit. This is just theoretical since I haven't done any testing.

I agree, that is why I wanted to emphasize that gnomes are better at nuking when comparing DI. Overall, the spec. bonus helps in ALL categories and may be weighed differently by people.
