Wizard and Enchanter combo

Hi !!

I've been playing multiple clerics and necromancers and warrior and pretty much boxed all classes back in EQLive back in the days, so I thought this time around I would stand back and nuke things.

I would like to hear you guys thoughts on Wiz and Ench combo here on SoD :) I like the idea of control this gives me, and I simply love enchanters and wizards... great buffs and best nukes and ports to kick in, just no ability to heal though. I am aware that I use two robes wearears and end up competing myself for gear and tanking, but I thought I would end up root cooking or kiting or grouping so I would be fine.

Any feedback? Thanks in advance!

I kind of think you really would have to try to come up with a worse class combo throughout the tiers.

Healer + Either => Better

Pally + Either => Better

Sk + either => At least you have someone to take damage, and healing through lifetaps possible.

War + Either=> Again someone that can take some damage, debatable equality

Ranger or Beast + Either=> Eventually some minor healing. Dps, tanking. Better.

Bard + Either => Some tanking, some extra dps, and tons of utility. Better

Necro + Either => Kinda sorta grouphots, necros can kind of tank while selfhealing through lifetaps, also splitting, various other utility, forevermana.

Mage + Either=> At least you have a tank you can heal, and ds.

Monk + Either=> Tanking, splitting.

Rogue + Wiz => Tough call, rogues can tank better than wizards that's for sure, could pingpong stuff I suppose.

Rogue+Enc => Probably not fantastic tbh.

In short if you're really set on playing 2 caster classes I'd reccomend picking necro or mage as one of them, giving you some ability to heal. Also invest in blazing crowns asap.

It could work, don't listen to all the hate. It's far from what most will consider ideal (something + healer) but if its what you wanna play then go for it. It certainly can work but honestly you'll likely be doing the exact same thing from the day you get your first mez until the day you retire the box....mez target, nuke target, mez target, rinse repeat until you are ready to lobotomize yourself with a q-tip and a paperclip. Forget charming since you have no heals and when petpet gets his grrface on, you will be taking a dirtnap in short order.

Stral did wizard + enchanter with Stral + Kemper for a while. If you are very good at it (I mean perfect) He could kill things faster than I Can with my shaman + bard and take 0 damage while doing it. Only downside was med time.

You can also be good programming on a commodore 64, but that doesn't mean everything else is not a better alternative.

Granted, leveling an enchanter is not a poor idea if you're planning on raiding eventually, because even if you quit it, you'll have a personal jb bot.

Thanks for the replies guys it's very appreciated. I'm aware that I'm not picking the easiest path, but I've always had a long term view, and in the end, that's how I'd like to be, and the journey, as hard as it may be, will be rewarding for me, I'm not seeking instant reward or easy paths, I qualify myself as a good and experienced player, I was hardcore back in the days.

I have intentions on playing the wizard primarily, and bring along the enchanter, I've always loved both classes, but I've always played clerics mostly due to the fact that they were the most critic and important class back in EQLive, both times I leveled up a necro to top level and joined guilds, I always ended up rerolling a cleric to support the guild.

So here in SoD its quite different... I guess I'll just play what looks like fun classes to me like some suggested

Any more thoughts on boxing Wiz/Ench or how they're viewed and considered? It seems to me that there are not that many wizards.

Doum

As far as wizards go, their current situation is a little odd. They are not ideal in groups because of the massive mana usage w/o any significant ways to recover it and the fact that they pretty much have zero utility. Many classes who may offer somewhat less DPS but more overall utility or more total damage throughput tend to be more attractive in many situations.

That said, you will be king big dick on the DPS charts in most of your raids until you hit Thaz tier. In Thaz depending on encounter you should be among the top DPSers but the distinct advantage you once had is gone. In late ToT you'll start to wonder why a class whose only job is DPS is getting blown away by classes who also get cool shit like mez/fd/pets/rez/blah blah.

There are plenty of Wizards on the server...most are currently retired. Heres to hoping the expansion addresses some issues that are long overdue.

SO far I'm having a blast to say the least. I made it to lvl 30 within a a few days in groups. Groups is really where it's at, I'm surprised people aren't trying to group as much as they can, it's so worth it.

I kind of followed the leveling guide and did blackburrow until about 13, then warrens until 21, then Warpstone until 30, and so far I've tried Paw with a full group, it was hard but good xp, Kings Pass looked a bit too hard for now, so I went and parked myself in Kaladim last night, it looks like a good zone to group until I'm high enough for the other 2 zones (KP and Paw).

The only thing I'm unsure of is the questing necessity... am I missing something if I havent done any quest? Other than lore and other kind of XP/golds, did I miss worthy items? I'm kind of wearing crap but I'm not really gear dependant yet.

You guys may look up for Doum(30wiz) and Doumy(30ench) online if you want to group!

Regards,

You should consider doing your starfall (and later on, thurgadin) quests. Some really nice items can be obtained there.
I also recommend doing your mainquest. Not only do you get a nice aug there that will stay with you forever, it's also required to get access to a place where you can get some of your most awesome spells (Relics and Ancients).

Starfall and Thurgadin quests are good ones to do.
Main Quest is a must, you should work on completing up to your Gemstone of History while you are in your 30's.
Check out the Newport Ring quest, the ring remains good loot for a long time but requires a lot of running. There are drops for it inside and around PAW you should be collecting when you get there.
Vingrin's Wand of Animation quest is a good one for casters to do also.

Anyway, the point being that leveling real quick is certainly one way to do it, but there are a lot of very fun things to spend some time on also.

Also, Newport Ring quest tends to give you a ring that you will not replace until you are well into raiding. And you can start it now for a ring that is less uber but still better than you may be able to afford.

I agree that Starfall/Thrugadin and Main Quest are essential. The main quest will give you the best aug in the game. And even now you can get a fairly nice aug while working on the quest. The EXP you receive is also helpful to get you leveled up.

If you started in newport, and didn't do your newport caster newbie quest line, shame on you! They are pretty much the best quests ever, and the final robe you get out of them is actually pretty good.

No I didn't start in Newport I started in Athica I'm high elf
Thanks for the quest recommendations! I will definately try to get them completed!

Best regards,

Actually, come to think of it, does experimental runes (example the magician newbie quest robe stack with the relevant focus effects (healing, damage etc)?

I highly recommend doing the MQ for the exp - the ability to port around with simplify it greatly. I noticed that you are 35 now, you should look into killing gnolls in south badlands (near the heartlands zoneline) soon. You will want a few more levels first, but they drop gnoll hides at great frequency that can be turned in (20 per character) for 85,000 total exp at the north badlands bridge. One of the most efficient leveling spots that most people miss. Also make sure to also collect Liodreth heads when in paw (turn in at the same place).
