Windows Taskbar Problem

I was recently forced to format my computer and reinstall windows. Before doing so if I opened eqw, logged in and then alt + tabbed to another window and alt + tabbed back to eqw the windows taskbar would disappear and I would have an extra half inch of screen space to see. The taskbar would come back as soon as I moved into a different program automatically.

I was wondering if anyone knows how I can get this to happen? The taskbar was not on auto hide as the only program that ever hid it was eqw. I really liked it being gone while I was in game and immediately appearing when I alt tabbed out.

This happens to me rarely, I just turn on auto-hide because it only takes like 10 seconds. Not sure what causes it.

This used to happen to me all the time.
What I have now is a backup of the eqw.ini file that is found in the patcher directory.
When you have everything working the way you want you copy that file to a separate folder and keep it there safe. Then, if things get screwy, copy and paste it over the one in the patcher folder.
For instance, here are the settings on my eqw.ini file.

[General]
EQEXE=D:\********* \blahblah
FixEQIni=TRUE
[Hotkeys]
ReleaseMouse=Ctrl Alt R
ReloadIni=Ctrl Alt I
EQWSwitch=Ctrl Alt S
[Positions]
800by600X=109
800by600Y=72
640by480X=227
640by480Y=152
1024by768X=-4
1024by768Y=-3
1024by755X=-3
1024by755Y=-5
1024by748X=-3
1024by748Y=-6

With these settings I am full screen and can switch back and forth to my alts.

I'm confused as to your question. You want it to autohide or you don't? It auto-hides for everything but eq?

What OS are you running? Is auto-hide currently enabled? (start, settings, taskbar & start menu on my own computer. Might be different for vista.)

Usually with EQW the windows taskbar "hides" behind the EQW window, but sometimes it will stay in front of it ("always on top" type-behavior) and if you have to manually turn on "auto-hide" to make it go away.

I'm not sure what conditions cause the taskbar to want to be on top, usually once it starts happening it's messed up until I restart. This is pretty rare for me.

This is exactly what im speaking of. It used to do this all the time on my previous install. Since I have reinstalled windows xp though it has not been happening at all. I want the taskbar to hide while im in eqw, but not be hidden when I alt tab to any other program.

Ok. Some applications will set it to be in front. That's actually "Always on top", not "Auto-hide".

Winamp always used to screw that up for me. It would reset it to always on top even when I specifically set winamp not to do it. (stupid idiotic companies that develop client code that doesn't give 2 cents for the user's machine's settings make me HATE HATE HATE them. They must DIE DIE DIE in slow fiery deaths of PAIN!)

Ahem. Back now. Sorry.

Basically I fixed my issue by removing stupid braindead muck-headed winamp. (Acrobat, you can eat my shorts too with your never-exiting pdf viewer even if I close the browser!!

Sorry. Just hitting my buttons tonight here obviously.

Yeah but like i said, set always-on-top to OFF and remove apps that reset it for no good bloody reason.

If you have it set and don't want to restart to fix it, you can click it back on, save it, then click it off again to fix it. Btw, if you have winamp, delete it and install VLC Media Player instead. Not nearly as obnoxious a program and works without installing endless drivers.
