Why does mage Air Elemental Form suck so much?

I was actually looking forward to this AA as a convenient clicky levitate and a few points of mana regen on top of that. I was upset when I found that:

- You can't use it indoors.

- It poofs when you zone.

- It has a >10 minute recharge.

Would it really be that overpowering to be able to levitate across two zones in a row? Or even benefit for a little mana regen indoors?

Am I missing something?

All illusions but those of enchanters with perma illusion AA disappear when you zone.
It not working in zones that disable levitate is also logical, because no levitate spells or illusions work there.
I believe the AA description says it has 15 minutes reuse time and lasts twice as long.
If it was usable in all zones under all conditions, it would probably be the only elemental form worth getting, which would make the other three obsolete.
The +25 to all resists on top of 4 overcap ft is pretty powerful.

if you zone into an area that does not allow levitation then it drops.

And like they said, the illusions drop when you zone unless you are an ench with perma illusion AA.

All good responses. I guess I was just focused on the inconvenience and limitations. I'd really like to have clicky levitate (summoning the ring is an annoying chore to me for some reason), and to be able to go from zone to zone.

I do have some further comments though.

1) Doesn't the wizard familiar give all the things air form does? Resists, mana regen, see invis? They can go from zone to zone.

2) Wouldn't O'Keil's Levity (wizard self-only levitate and minor DS) be a good fit for mages? It is, after all, elemental in theme. I can think of a few spells in our lineup to sacrifice for some useful utility...

On an entirely unrelated note, but since mages might be reading this, why can't we summon armor for our pets? Why do we have FT staves that nobody uses in place of something we could use to help our pets every day?

FT staves are the most powerful item for power leveling casters, sure they don't have a large pratical use but an ft III stick on a level 10 is super great.

Do you really want an ability that helps you power-level alts over one that helps you on level-appropriate content though? Isn't that what druids are for?

Philosophically, I think that the more spells you stand a reasonable chance of using in anger on any given day, the richer the game is. So, I see things like upper level earth pets and FT staves as being somewhat misplaced or broken.
