"White" blue screen of death

Hey ladies and gents, adventurers of all ages.

I'm having an issue where my computer freezes up. This makes getting onto SoD quite the issue! Here is a brief catch-up so you can get an idea of what has been done:

Issue: Computer would lock up, no control + alt + delete, no mouse, no nothing. Then a black screen would appear forcing me to manually shut down.

Fix: On-campus computer center. Ran: full hardware diagnostic and speciallized tests. Hours of tests run. All: PASSED.

-----no help in problem

Fix: Calling dell. Im on waranty untill '09, so i gave them a call. Repeated 90% of the tests i did on campus. Same results. Recomended a full system restore.

-----no help in problem

Fix: On-campus computer center. Quick check of some more issues including bios, malware, extra processes and a brief visual overview. Final decision made to reboot system. Only eq folder was backed up/ restored onto my newly booted/fresh system.

-----no help in problem. only noted change was in the way it froze: Instead of freezing then turning black. It freezes and gradually lightens to a white color that never goes away. (manual restart needed.)

Dell is advising me to run the full (2hour +) tests again. However, that is crap and I would like some oppinions on what I can do. I dont want to resort to sending it into dell for inspection for over a month. Any advice? It's a Latitude D610 if that helps at all

If you've done this much to try to fix the problem yourself and the computer is still under warranty, they should have offered to look at it by now. You can request that you send the computer in for testing / fixing when talking to the representatives by phone. With most types of warranty, they even pay for the shipping.
They may say no or insist that you try more fixing on your own, which is when you say you wanna talk to the manager.

Yea, it seems I may have to send the beast in and deal with a few weeks off of SoD. This is lame X10 :(

It does sound like you're having a cpu heat problem. Or since it is a Dell it could also be a problem with the motherboard itself. I just completed A+ and one of the students in the class was a former Dell employee. He told me that Dell is having a great deal of problems with the new motherboards being defective or becoming defective within 90 days of the purchace of the systems. The class instructer owns his on computer repair service and has confirmed that he is getting an outstanding number of dell systems in the last 3 months with motherboard failures. This is the new style motherboards with the new light blue expantion slots on them.

One thing you can do when it freezes is if you have an extra USB mouse laying around. When the system freezes up plug the USB mouse in and it will unfreeze the system. The reason that will work sometimes is do to the Plug and Play feature.
But I would send it to Dell and let them deal with it. In most cases instead of testing the system when they receive it they just replace the MB and CPU and return the system.

Does it randomly freeze? or only when you are attempting to log into SoD? In other words, if you something other than SoD does it freeze. If you boot the PC up and let it sit there for a while will it eventually lock up?
