What's up with the raid window?

First of all, if there is a post or page somewhere about info regarding this, I would really like to read it.

On to my story now.
Well, tonight we used the raid window and it's an absolute catastrophe. It ended up at the point where we just called it for the night because it's so buggy (and I'm not referring to the exp). When we finally decided it's not worth it anymore, the raid leader couldn't even make a group with anyone, and every time someone would disband, everyone would get spammed to hell and then the groups would magically take in new people and kick out others. It was brutal. It was somewhat similar to regular group bugs, but at least with group bugs if you just spam CTRL+D a few times you can remake without much problem. If there was a command similar to that to entirely disband a raid and everyone in it, then that might have helped.

Some people sent me tells during the raid to just switch back to /cm group link add command (which we were going to do from the start), but it doesn't work now. As of right now, I would really like to reimplement the /cm command because it is far less of a hassle than the new raid window.

Now, I know some people will say "oh how can you complain its only been out one day blah blah blah", but I would like to say that I think this is something that should be thoroughly tested before it's released since the former method (/cm group link add) was FAR superior. At least make it usuable even if the raid window still exists. I'm sure that if a raid force never has to disband a member, or zone, or have anyone die, then the raid window setup would work fine.

OH NO WE COULDN'T RAID FOR ONE WHOLE DAY OH NO

Seriously, a lot of testing had been done, and the bugs will be straightened out soon enough.

Im glad you were able to effectively capture my total message, and respond to me just as well. Your understanding does not go unnoticed.

The only viable way to test something like this is to patch it in. We aren't a large corporation with enough testers to fully field a raid on a test server and go around killing encounters while trying to dig out all the possible bugs.

I spent over 20 hours total coding and testing this. I fixed every bug that I caught when testing. Guess what, we don't have a test server or a full raid of testers, we couldn't catch every bug.

!! this is fantastic, i'm very glad you guys put in a new system for linking groups in raids the /cmd group link wasn't the best. especialy one that involves the raid window, props to you guys. i'm sure most of the bugs will be straitened out soonish ...

anyway really just wanted to say thanks!

The funny thing is I thought about the possible addition of the missing raid window (that I never saw in action) and other things like, 2 days ago, and I was like "wow that would be cool". I was so surprised that it worked tonight ! of course there are bugs still, but from what we experienced (was like 2 groups only though) the only problem was exp penalty ; but I'm pretty sure it'll get fixed easily. For the moment I'd like to say how the administration RULEZ. Don't complain about this, if you want to get back to the era when groups were killed while zoning just throw yourself off the 10th stage of your building kkthx

The tone of your post came accross pretty shitty, it's not wrong to point out bugs and voice your opinion ( like bringing back the /cmd link command ). But for a future reference you should probably watch how you say shit like that, it pretty much forced the staff to get defensive.

Oh man, and I totally thought you guys were working for Microsoft! <sarcasm>

For those of us who can't log in to play, was there a patch message pertaining to this? I looked but couldn't find one and a guildy in IRC said itwas just posted as server motd. I love the raid window and am confident it will get ironed out. One question: is there a raid channel with it? Man do I hope so!

There is a /raidsay however we noticed last night you can't hear other group chatter in the raid.

Definitely, that's one of the biggest plusses. Thanks for all the hard work on it! Very handy stuff.

Definitely great job and I know a good amount of people who appreciate the time you put into it and look forward to seeing it fully functional. Just a thought for testing, I noticed you have the development server running - is there a way to flag maybe 24 people to login to the server? Group up/raid up - buff and kill a dummy mob. Possibly a fight/event that would last maybe 30+min to include PL issues. The major issue we had last night was that a group leader would get PL or insta disco and then the entire raid had to reform because it wouldn't let us make another person the groupleader. Also the join/left spam seemed to generate excessive traffic to the server making the zone kinda edgy - possibly a client side problem? Anyways - not sure if this is the official post your bugs thread now so I'll hold off on going into detail.

Unfortunately, that is a consequence of reading someone else's text. It's all too open to personal interpretation without any real feedback unless, perhaps, you throw in a comment like "I'm not trying to be a negative nancy," but then that would just be interpreted as some schmuck sounding arrogant.

I think the tester "team" would be a good idea, and I'm sure more than a few people would be more than willing to help.

Tested out raid window again tonight - MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH better. If a GroupLeader went LD - he popped right back into group/raid w/ no side effects. Buffs hit everyone flawlessly and there was no join/leave spam at all. Thanks again Wiz!!

Three things I noticed about the raid window.
1) When you are in a 2 person group, and the other person leaves the group, it knocks you out of the raid and you lose your group leader status.
2) In one case last night a group leader went LD or accidentally disbanded (not sure which) and nobody then became the leader of the group to invite.
3) Whenever somebody makes somebody else the leader of a group, it says that original leader leaves the raid then rejoins the raid. Is that just how the mechanics work or is there a way to not see all of that message? I think it says that not only for the original group leader but the person getting the lead also.

Very impressed with it so far, great work!

If there was an "official" thread regarding Raid Window bugs forgive. I searched both Suggestions and Balancing and didn't see one.

After raiding all night last night using the new system, I'm very impressed with the changes. Only a few minor bugs we ran into that made it a little time consuming, but once we figured out the work arounds it made it a bit easier.

1.) If the raid wipes the whole raid has to leave their groups and disband from the raid and reform. As the raid leader can no longer invite any other members/groups. Nor can the group leaders. Pretty much bugs the whole window.

2.) If the group leader promotes someone else to be group leader using /makeleader <name> it spams with all members joining the raid. Not a big deal but could cause some issues.

3.) If a person leaves the raid we had to Ctrol D to disband from group, open raid window disband from raid, then spam Ctrol D again. This made sure that the person did not rejoin the raid on grouping with someone outside of the raid. (That may be a little hard to clarify).

Ex: Wiz is in raid and needs to leave raid to port someone. He does the disband from group, then opens raid window to leave raid. If he invites Warrior for invite they both rejoin the raid and become bugged.

Workaround: Wiz leaves group, then leaves raid, then spams Ctrol D 5+ times. Wizard is now clear from the raid and invites Warrior. Both are in a seperate group not in the raid.

4.) You have to invite one group leader at a time to join the raid. If 2 or more groups are invited at once (as in Wizard is raid leader and invites Bob, Joe, and Happy and they all type /raidaccept. Raid window will bug and only some groups are visible. IE: Bob can only see Wizard and himself, Joe seems himself happy and Wizard etc.)

Work around: Raid leader invites one at a time and waits for each one to join before inviting another. This seems to work perfectly as designed.

There may have been a couple more but I had a migraine last night and this was all I could remember.

Otherwise great job so far, we have yet to try and use the looting option. But we don't really have a need to as of yet.

**Edit it seems that the Stand up zone wide bug came back somehow. We were all waiting for an ice giant pull and the whole raid stood at once. Was kind of funny because noone was touching their keyboards. I believe we mentioned that to you Wiz last night when you stopped by, but wanted to include it in the post aswell**
