What is needed?

I just found out i can play the Game for free and i almost had a heart attack!, but getting to the point i dont know this sever at all and what is in the most demand or is there the least of? any feedback is nice.

First of all, this is not Game. Do not go in expecting Game. This server is pretty much entirely custom made.

Apart from that, whatever is in most demand seems to shift every few months, so it'd be kinda useless to base your choice on what is needed right here right now (because chances are plenty of people are already leveling characters to fill that void). Basically, play what you enjoy most.

It's easier to list what is still the same.

-Broad class roles: in other words, Warriors still tank, Clerics still heal. The subtelties from class to class are quite different though.

-Zones: the zones are still old zones, but they aren't necessarily named nor connected all the same. I.e. the Karanas are the Badlands here, named differently, but connected the same. (ETA: but as an example, you can zone from East Badlands into Heartlands Plateau, old Jaggedpine Forest, and from there in Heartlands Undercaverns, old Veksar).

-Many spells/songs, especially below 60, are the same or only tweaked a little.

Everything else (NPCs, quests, equipment, formulas) is different. (ETA: Sounds scary, eh? Don't worry, take it easy. Poke around the forums and ask about whatever you don't understand.)

just 3 things that you need to know if you played live

freeport = dead and full of skellys that will kill you

rivervale = dead and full of death touching mobs in the water the zone out side(not kith other way) is full of death touching mobs if you go off the path

kaladim = dead full of ghosts that dont like people

to Add to this list...

Commonlands (known as Plaguelands east, west etc) ARE NOT for newbies they are 50+ levels zones)

The zones around what use to be commonlands are also NOT newbie zones (nerak forest, freeport, Kithcor forest noth ro etc).

Don't kill Avaiks unless you want to screw yourself out of the MQ (thier are some you can kill but until you know which ones don't kill any).
Don't kill the dark skined orcs in Oasis (the ones that look like crusherbone orcs) unless you dont want to complete the MQ.
Don't Kill Centaurs unless you don't want to do the MQ (unless thier corrupted Centaurs)

btw MQ= Main Quest look at the books you start the game with for more details.

Basicly many of the once upon a time newbie/low level zones are now high level zones. Some of the old zones that were higher level are now lower level. Don't try to use your knowlege of the "games" zones here. Other then some connection (which isn't totaly mirrored) thier very different.

A good example... Befallen isn't a zone you want to be in even if your 65 by yourself :D

- All item will remain on you if you die, your corpse contain only your XP debt, which you will get it back when you are rezzed
- XP debt is count in percent, you will get same amount of debt no matter how many time you die in a row
- You can buy off your debt from the cleric npc for a small price according to your level
- You can change your fighting mode (/s list)
- You get 10 points in specialize at every level (/cm specialize) [This system replaced the specialise system for casters in the original game]
- Adventure band (You can form a band with other people, so that both of you will share the XP gained, even if not in a group or when you are not online)
- There are no Grouping level limit
- As long as the highest level in the group gets exp from the mob the group is fighting (i.e. it doesn't con green to him/her), then everybody in the group gets exp.
- You can bind yourself in any zone, apart from dungeons (/cm bind)
- List system for buy and sell item (Similar to a shop, see Tome of knowledge -> List system thread)
- Enchanter can control their pet like a necro or mage pet
- OOC and auction channel is global channel, all zones will hear you
- Shout channel is your zone only
- Adept (it is a boss which have a level limit for you to attack it, e.g. you must be between 20-30 level, see wiki adept for more info)
- Max number of member in a raiding group is 18
- Treasure maps (See wiki for more info)
- Different Tradeskilling recipes.
- You can level up to 65.
- Different AAs.
- A new tradeskill: mining
- Auxiliary (sp?) tanking: anybody in melee and facing the mob now contribute to reducing its damage
- Archery is worth something even before you put 100 AAs in it!
- Alignment system, similar to the classic D&D one; your alignment is attributed based on your actions in-game
- Assistance penalty for help received outside of group while fighting a creature
- Group XP bonues...2 players in a group get same XP each as if 4 or 6 players (see more on wiki)

CHA as starting stat does matter more than WIS or INT for a caster. Don't underestimate it.

Don't forget the death touching tendrils in Nagthilian, the dark elf city. :(

Quick correction on Adepts, Kerolynne: The Adept must con red for you to be able to attack it, and if you have buffs from a player it doesn't con red to, you can't attack. There are adepts for all levels, all the way up to 58. :)

Guess there's a typo here. I thought they went up to 57 at top.

I'm finally get back into SoD, and I just wanted to say that I've read the Wiki page.

This thread and the new wiki page that was created are really great resources for new players or those returning.

Thanks for all the help! And thanks for posting the "stupid" question no one else wanted to ask :toot:
