What is happening to our Pets?

From a parse of Essence of the Mother taken yesterday.

Mage 1 pet is a R1 pet with the owner having zero Archetype tomes, one class tome (word of Power 1) and not yet finished CoP 5.

Mage 2 pet is a R2 pet with all Archetype tomes (in particular Companion Strike) and 6 class tomes (in particular word of Power 2).

Other than that the pets were identically equipped, were both water pets, and both had identical full raid buffs.

Mage 1 Pet
--- DMG: 68588 (3.03%) @ 152 dps (151 sdps)
--- DMG to PC: 29596 @67dps

Mage 2 Pet
--- DMG: 82650 (3.66%) @ 184 dps (182 sdps)
--- DMG to PC: 30727 @69dps

The vast majority of the difference in damage can be attributed to the additional tomes leading to the conclusion that the upgrade from R1 to R2 provides a negligible increase in dps.

By contrast the caster dps was

Mage 1
--- DMG: 78711 (3.48%) @ 185 dps (173 sdps)
--- DMG to PC: 46305 @112dps

Mage 2
--- DMG: 190988 (8.45%) @ 464 dps (421 sdps)
--- DMG to PC: 46991 @114dps

Now since Mage casting dps scales up virtually identically to Wizard casting dps, the overall (mage plus pet) dps can only scale up to match that of a Wizard if the pet dps scales up to match the casting dps.

that is an absolutely awful fight to parse, and implying mage runic2 pet does 184 dps is kinda silly

Pets are still not at their prior level. Their health alone should show that
with pet class pets averaging 1300 less health. In my case, means a pet
who died occasionally to aoe spikes on 2 bosses, now dies damned near
every engagement like I'm back raiding Tier 8 and 9 again.

Recent patches and the 'fixes' or whatever seem to have dropped pet HP once again and maybe even their strength though and that may be legitimate. Who knows.

woot, i out dps'd the shaman pets thats wassup.

I agree with velleity pet hps are way too low especially the runic version. When my pet does to an ae because it is too far to get a heal it makes me sad. Also would notind seeing a bump in pet dps.

I understand the reasoning of not wanting to have too much hps bc would be too op to have pet tank lower tier bosses but how would tht be any different than using a super tiered (t12/13 same tier to finish runic) melee to tank which would probably be easier as they actually have defensive skills.

Group heals automatically land on your pet if it lands on you, regardless of distance.

I think he just means that because of all the mitigating factors players get that pets don't, pets group heals will often not sustain a pet through AE damage, while the caster is kept alive.

Pet HP is still down after the recent patch compared to before the "must wear companion focus" patch. My mage pet is down around 1200 hp fully buffed. Can't speak for other pets, but given that there's still huge survivability issues with pets this is an issue, especially for the lower end of the spectrum pets (HP-wise) like ranger birds and druid frogs.

The survivability issues for beastlord pets are noticeable, and that extends to the beastlord as well while pet stanced. I've had a couple issues where my pet has died while in /s 7 where it would not have died two weeks ago.

"We are looking to add in a raid wide pet spell rune. This should allow pets a bit more survivability in raid situations without increasing their power in soloing, tanking and other areas. We are still hammering out the details of what this will replace and which class needs the new tech love. Hopefully this can make for some interesting interclass synergy."

You created an issue out of a non-issue and now wish to give some unfortunate class an ability no one wants. No one wants to be a pet healer. No one signed up for it and it failed completely in the past.

No one wants to have to cast a tedious spell on a timer or use a spell slot for a timed use conditional spell at gross mana cost to "balance" it, for pets. Whether you call it a ward/rune/hot/remedy for fido or whatever, it's a heal that no one wants. You are just opening yourself up for a crap ton of complaints.

why the nerf to pet classes anyhow... not like they were face rolling before anyways.

have mages in my guild saying thier runic 2 pet in fire form is hitting 15000 without raidbuff meanwhile my pets fully raid buffed adn still under 14000? wtf

I agree with velleity you are now asking another class to chose from doing dps or healing class x, and doing pet buff/heal/runs and the decision will always to be let the pet die. This is a really shitty work around for a terrible and unjustified nerf. Boosts the Pet's health and be done with it. Have earth pet sit around 35k unbuffed air/water 25-30k and fire 20k they have virtually no mitigation so it is really a non issue, or make them detrimental spell immune.
