After I Installed EQ, fully patched to live, I downloaded:
Eqfix.zip - http://www.wintersroar.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1203
WrFiles.zip: Manually installing these files is key. This will change your login screen back to the last working one. THIS WILL FIX THE "Error: Timeout Occured" - http://humme.dk/eqemu/wrfiles.zip
WRPatcher and CharCreate fix - http://www.wintersroar.com/index.php?page=downloads
1. I installed and ran the WRPatcher. Then I hit RUN.
2. I then exited everquest.
3. I put the CharCreate fix in my everquest/uifiles/default folder.
4. I Unzipped the contents of Eqfix.zip into my everquest folder
5. I then Unzipped the contents of WRfiles.zip into my everquest folder. This will change your login screen back to the last working one. THIS WILL FIX THE "Error: Timeout Occured"
6. (May only be a fix for laptops) I made sure my everquest resolutio was less then my desktop resolution. My desktop is at 1280x800 (widescreen) and would crash after the server select if everquest was set at 1280x1024.
Ok well I didn't do that exactly the way I said it but minus the hair pulling and 2 days of figuring out WTF is up thats basically what I did.
I hope this helps people.
Cheers,
Typhoeus
P.S: Special thanks to Melwin, Wany, Wiz, and anyone else I forgot who helped me out in IRC Chat.
