Weird 1017 error...very odd

Ok, first off i know there are some quizes to answer to help better solve 1017s, but this one is very odd and i think a fix can be made easily but i think its too easy of a fix for me to find it. if that makes any sense. anyways, i get 1017 when i try to log onto server from server select screen, BUT i only get it if i have already been playing SoD. once i reboot, i can connect again, but i cant zone without the game freezing. i CTRL+ALT+DEL the game out and then relog...1017....i reboot PC and no more 1017 and im even in the zone i was headed to...odd hungh? i am fully patched, matter of fact this problem just happened about 2 hours ago. never had any connection problems before.and one side question, what is my Datarate file SUPPOSED to be set to? its at 8.0 right now. searched but couldnt find a thread on what the rate SHOULD be. anyways, any help or advice woould be appreciated. and if it matters, im behind a router and the other PC i have is doin the same weird 1017 error. its the same process on both PCs.

Please post the LAST 25 lines of your DBG.txt so I can see what the crash error is. Best practice is to DELETE your dbg.txt file from your EQ-SoD install directory, run the game through ANOTHER crash, then post the log file here. Thanks.

alright, here's a little update on my problem. i still get 1017 almost everytime i try and log in now, but if i just keep clickinh PLAY EVERQUEST then eventually i get to load and select my character. but thats where the buck stops. i select my char and hit ENTER WORLD. i get to the splash load screen and then....nothing....ever. i was able to wash dishes, make a sandwich and watch the last 10 minutes of CSI before i just said "to he11 with it" and CNTRL+ALT+DEL out of EQ. my last reply was the DBG.txt file with one failed attempt at connecting to the server. its not a DBG file of THIS problem. anyways, if i cant seem to fix this annoying problem i believe i will have to wait for EQEmu to get cought up with live and change servers. *GASP* i said it...this is one of those problems that just ruins me and my wife, and my little brother from playing EQEmulated servers. i truely hope a fix can be found and some sound advice can be given about this. i dont want to leave SoD but i cant log in. anyways, thanks to anyone working on this problem for me and im sorry i cant seem to get it solved myself. (between work, woman, 20 year old truck, sleep, and church; dont have the time to debug and trbl shoot)

great, now i can log in every once in a while, but game crashes to the server select screen when i try to zone. this is becomeing increasingly annoying.

Do you use a firewall?
Do you use a router?
Have you tried updating your graphic driver?
Do you have other computers you have tried to play SoD on?
Have you tried moving your computer to another location?
What version of Windows are you running?
Who is your ISP?
Why didn't you answer all these questions in your original post?

im not useing a firewall except for the one built into Windows XP Pro.
I AM behind a router, but that hasnt been a problem in the past.
i do have another PC on the router that plays SoD and that too hasnt been a problem in the past.
im running WinXP Pro
i just updated my graphics drivers today and it seems to allow me to log in and zone successfully but much slower zone times than before, ill test it more in a few.
i dont have the networking cable length to move my PC farther away from my router but distance from router shouldnt be a factor since its a wired router.
ISP is RoadRunner.
i didnt answer these questions before b/c i wasnt sure of their importantce

any other questions that need answering please feel free to let me know what info you need to help me with this problem. and if i havent stated it before now, i do appologize for not haveing this info up in the orig. post, but here it is now. :)

thanks!

Built-in firewall of XP pro gave a 5e error for my partner. Disabled it, everything ran fine.
Try disabling and running, might just be the culprit.

The built in one is really really really horrible and can easily create problems. Have you tried disabling it? (You can enable it again later, if you want)
I AM behind a router, but that hasnt been a problem in the past.
This *could* create problems if it isn't port forwarding.
i do have another PC on the router that plays SoD and that too hasnt been a problem in the past.
Does it work now?

Let us know if it still creates problems. Did you by any chance have a driver created for the purpose of Elder Scrolls IV?

Heh. I meant to a friend's house or likewise, to test if it's your connection or your computer. :p
