War/Nec or SK/Wiz?

I’m trying to pick between these two team combos: WAR/NEC/clr/brd or SK/WIZ/clr/brd. The goal of this team would primarily be for 6man raid/dungeons. Could anyone help me better choose which would make the most sense? The War/SK are already 65 with raid gear and the Wiz/Nec will be new.

War / Nec
- FD – Can a necro pull as effectively as a SK or is it harder to split pull?
- Necro can give mana, not sure if this trumps the SK’s ability to give mana
- FD + Resurrect for 6mans! Woo for wipe recovery in 6mans
- Mez
- No need to get runics for Warrior (SK doesn’t have any yet nor has last pieces of MQ/Blackscale done)
- Warrior has T9 gear and 4 CoP tomes done

SK / Wiz
- FD – better?
- Better overall DPS? Hard to tell since the new Warrior changes added some DPS
- AoE damage
- Teleports
- SK has T7 gear and 0 CoP tomes

Thanks!

Either combo is quite strong imo. For me it would boil down to what you want more, ports or FD/recovery. Note that with a rez urn SKs can fd/rez too but by the time you know you're going to wipe the SK would be likely dead.

Having no ports would be quite annoying. In terms of overall strength, gear level on a tank is probably the biggest factor in your overall strength. So using the better geared tank will make the group much stronger.

Box tanking:
Personally, I like boxing warriors over SKs as tanks because
a) it's easier to pickup multiple mobs (AE taunt, whirlwind) without selecting the specific targets.
b) warrior abilities are all instantaneous.
c) don't have to wait for mana.

Dps:
Burst- SK/WIZ
Duration-WAR/NEC
Warrior doesn't rely on mana for dps so it does more than SK in the long run and necro dps / mana efficiency is better than a wizard the longer the period of time. Sk/Wiz have much better upfront burst dps options.

Pulling:
It's actually an advantage to have your FD class NOT be the tank, so the tank can tag off the puller. Necro FD is an AA not a spell so they can pull with DF too. (Kind of annoying to wait 5 minutes on DF if you need to split a pull).

Thoughts -
Necro is the better puller also due to mez. Pulling w mez is an amazing mechanic.
Warrior needs access to refugee too, due to sta tome from vendor
If one set has raid gear and one doesn't, the choice seems logical that you go with the geared toons.
Duo'ing will be easier war / nec via ease of agro control. Despite sk's having best overall agro, its mostly single target. Necro can simply FD temporarily until everything is foe locked.

Either combo sounds like fun. Being lazy, I'd choose the pre-geared toons

Thanks Pecannius and everyone else,

That was really helpful and I think I will go with the WAR/NEC combo. Now I just need to pay the plat to transfer things like my ToLL ect over to the warrior and start buying his tomes to activate the CoP %.

For the refuge Warrior tome, what faction level do you need to purchase the stamina tome? I havent played SoD in awhile and dont remember much about faction grinding there or what I need for what. But I figure it would be nice to purchase the stamina tome as part of the tomes that I will use to consume the AA's I will get back from converting my old CoP books.

Need to be apprehensive, like most merchants. So after you do the dubious/entry quest, you just need one more faction level.

War/Nec is more Raw power IMO. Nice wipe recovery with necromancer.

Wiz/SK will save a lot of time for questing and stuff.

If you like to quest, having ports will be amazingly useful. If you want to just be as strong as powerful, the Necro will bring more power (pulling, mez, wipe recovery) to a 6man group.

I would also consider the SK over Warrior regardless. SKs have a lot more utility for small groups. They can FD, give the whole group extra mana regen (actually very strong), they can lifetap and use spears for DPS/heals.

Warriors are not bad, but warriors are more suited to the ultimate raid tank, with their best-in-game mitigation, but for a smaller group, a SK is going to usually be stronger. Fighting anything but raid mobs, those lifetaps pretty much make up and are arguably stronger than the warriors mitigation.

Worth noting that the necro and SK mana stuff stacks and until T10-11ish Necro > Wiz on 6man or xp. Better sustained dps. I'd go with the SK/Necro personally. You can always load ports.
