Well, I boxed my wife's druid with my ranger to level him up when she stopped playing. As a new player (unable to twink) rangers are kind of rough to level up.
Shamans are good because they can haste/slow/buff/debuff and heal, while almost never running out of mana once you get to the good cannis.
Druids are spectactular because they can port and heal - if you're really good you can box kite a druid+ranger, dotting with the druid and bow kiting with the ranger.
Clerics are really good because they can give greater hp buffs and have way more powerful heals - innate heal crits also help keep mana consumption low.
If you want more of a challenge, you could try boxing a necro with a ranger. However, you're going to need a set of tboots if you're going to do this for box kiting (And a lot of room for fletching components.)
