Using your microphone

Hi. I previously posted about using your joystick to emulate the keyboard and mouse on a joystick. You can also set up a microphone to use to talk with your friends. Mumble comes with the patcher, BUT, i noticed that the server channels if used by many players could add a bit of lag to the server. My solution was setting up a free teamspeak server. So now me and my friends can talk on our own channel without adding to server load on SoD.

I can send the address to where you can set up your own teamspeak server for free, all you need is the teamspeak client installed.
Having a private channel for only you and your friends is great. Now you don't need to type and send tells or ooc to find someone. If they are playing and logged into your TS server, all you do is talk to them and you can know where they are, whats going on....NO TYPING!!!
I keep my mic set to hands free so I don't even have to push to talk or use a push to talk hotkey. Just set the mic sensitivity and it will only open when you talk, not when your game music is playing.

If you're hosting this on your rig be careful as if you are using a codec that isn't painful to listen to TS can prove surprisingly consumptive of bandwidth.

Hi, jokie_smurf here to tell you about my new and exciting product.....

Meh, we were all thinking it.

Uuum....this is not new and I didn't think it exciting. My intention is far from a sales pitch. It's giving people multiple options for making their game play better. Some of you have a far to negative attitude toward anything new. If I were selling something, I would have posted web addresses or some other form of ad.

You don't have to use anything I post about. I didn't say anyone had to use or even inquire about it. It was just an option I made available to people who might want to use it. If you're not interested, then just say no thank you. Regardless of your poor attitudes I will continue to attempt to be helpful to my fellow gamers.

Were just poking fun, as you will find everyone on the SoD Forums, and in game does. Lighten up.
Your name IS j0kie_smurf after all.....

Squishee, poking fun is great... and you really don't have to remind me of my screen name LOL. Maybe it was just the way yall made it appear. It could even be that I might have been a tad bit medicated and misunderstaood the joke.

Sometimes I have a bad habit of not giving people the benefit of the doubt often enough. And for the record, I am not sour at anyone nor upset, and I very much mean what I said that I want to help my fellow gamers here.

Definitely understand :) No hard feelings! Im thinking bout trying the joystick thing, the Xbox remote idea is sweet!

You should def try it, once you get used to it, you won't want to go back to keboard/mouse. Just wish they made gamepads/joysticks with a few more buttons on them.. need 14-15 for everythign I'd truly want key'd in.

There are 32 button joysticks dude....32 BUTTONS. Go to Meijers, Walmart, local pc store...check around. I have seen them. I don't know what shops are in your area so you can try the internet also. E-bay and the like also.

I use xbox360 joystick because I have a 360 and so have sticks already. PS3 also works the same, and any other joystick. Again, if anyone would like some help with their set up for a particular character class, pm me or see me in game: Skalos. Or post in this thread.

Most buttons I have seen on any joystick (not gamepad) was 12 buttons. Looked around at various web-sites and local stores. But the difference in price between the 10 button pad (20bucks) to a 12 button stick (55bucks) was completely not worth spendign the extra cash.

Pretty sure MS had a joystick (one of the sidewinders) that did 50+ buttons by having 10-12ish buttons but 5 or 6 modes that changed what each button did by toggling the mode.

Easy way to do this with any joystick is to program button combos or rapid hits (IE button A 3x inside such and such ms = button M)

Pretty sure if you start setting up macros to them there joysticks, and having too much fun, you might not be playing much more,.

I'm not even sure he's talking about macros. Hell I miss my old IBM programmable AT keyboard playing (bought it to play RPG's) just because the 10 hotkeys the game allows (without Shift-#) are insufficient. That keyboard was beautiful. 24 function keys, all of them programmable (in fact every key was programmable). Onboard processor. Weighed like 15 lbs. Steel freaking construction. If I had that thing now I'd only need to use one of the hotkey windows. (1-10 + 24 keys I could set to ANYTHING... only a few of which I'd have to reassign (I don't use many F keys in SoD... first 6). I'd have macros for all my spells, any combat abilitys, AA's, Listsold browsing, /cm D1's etc, /tar's for all the tanks I group with regularly, hidecorpse... I'd never type anything except for chatting again... I could be soooo lazy.)

I am not talking about macros. I don't use macros. What I use is keyboard EMULATION, that assigns keyboard keys to your joystick. If you have the headset that plugs into an xbox360 joystick, you can use it like that, plugged into the stick, to talk on mumble, teamspeak, ventrilo or whatever.

Uuum....this is not new and I didn't think it exciting.

In the early days of movie creation, sound was not part of the "event". When technology made it possible for sound to come to the silent movie market, the "Talkies" changed many a moviestar's career.

In the age of the computer, in-game functioning chats ARE new. New being defined as something less than 15-20 years IMO. I run silent, I am a lone wolf, and I get almost as much enjoyment from a situation when I know the "talkies" are setting me up for a good laugh amongst themselves.

Need a good cleric w/o "talkie" distraction? I'm your man. Well that is unless I just macroed my spam heal button to first target me.
