Upgrading Computer for Two-boxing

Graphia

I'd like to be able to two-box, but as of now EQ runs too slow with two windows open for it to be practical.

What I'd like to know is if I could upgrade my computer to make two-boxing possible (and what I would need to upgrade) or if I would have to buy a new computer entirely. The specs of the comp. I'm running now are (taken from system properties):

Dell
Dell Inspiron |1000
Mobile Intel(R)
Celeron(R) CPU 2.20GHz
2.19 GHz, 704 MB of RAM

I'm not very computer savvy, so if there's any info missing I can add it.

well, i know my current (stationary) computer is Way overkill for 2 boxing;

4 cores ~2.4 Ghz each
4GB Ram
8800Gt 512Mb

while i also know my laptop cannot run 2 instances of EQ,

2 cores ~1.8 Ghz each
2GB Ram
X2300 something rather graphics card i think its 128Mb
Running Vista on it, so thats most likely why it cannot 2 box very well (vista requires more resources)

what OS are you running? XP or Vista?

if your running Vista, my first concern is your amount of Ram.

also what is your Graphics card? is it intergrated? (Im assuming we are speaking of a laptop)

if you could run Dxdiag.exe that would be great

and i mean actually run :)

open the start menu and select RUN, and type in dxdiag.exe and press enter.

what thats done loading and all that, press the save button, should be somewhere in the lower right. that will save it to a text file, and if you either mail it to me or post the specs under

I have a celeron 2.4gHz w/ 768mb ram and a cheap geforce fx 5200 128mb video card and can maintain 2boxing. It's not the best specs for it, but this can be viewed as the low end of two-boxing specs

First thing you can do is go pick up some sort of new video card. You will need to look at your system board and see if you have an AGP slot for one, it looks like THIS (left most slot). Basically anything you will be able to find sold in a store will be an upgrade.

Next you can work on ram. Your board will probably support 1gig total, but I don't know how old your PC is or how much more it can support.

If all this doesn't work to your satisfaction, you can look for better processors which are compatible with your board or buy a completely new barebones system to transport your existing peripherals to.

I'm thinking you will be able to work with the first two, if not just an upgraded vid card.

My laptop has 1 gig of ram and 1.2Ghz processor with a 16mb onboard video card and I can run 2 clients if I want.

Sure I need to run them in 16bit but that's besides the point lol.

according to your Dxdiag, you have a intergrated graphics card, so your most likely on a laptop, whereas your going to have a hard time upgrading your video card.

with 64Mb intergrated video card, im afraid your probably not going to be able to 2 box on that computer.

sorry :(

youll need something with a bit more power to 2box

that, or run them like finkk does, better ask him about that :)
