Un-Nerf Citadel a bit?

Someone was complaining to me earlier today about how boring exp grinding is and I told them how interactive and challenging Citadel is and asked why they didn't go there.

I finished needing exp before the zone changed, so I cant comment on specifics, but the server as a whole seems to think that Citadel is worse reward in bother experience and platinum, which is what motivates people to go to experience zones.

I don't understand this, because Citadel is undoubtedly the most challenging/difficult exp zone in the game. Many mobs have unique mechanics that force players to pay attention. This encourages groups of unboxed players, actually paying attention and communicating, instead of the boxed up half asleep style most tank and spank exp zones encourage.

I have a lot of really good memories of hanging out in Citadel with friends and exping. It was a challenge, and sometimes we died, but it made exp so much more interesting and fun. I cant imagine why Citadel should not be the most rewarding exp zone in the game, since it is certainly the most challenging.

I imagine it got nerfed because it was considered "too good", which I can definitely understand, but the fact that it got nerfed to the point that nobody considers it worth doing anymore, because it is more rewarding to go somewhere you just pull endless tank and spank mobs all day.

I suggest Citadel get a bump in exp gain to encourage people to go there again.

It really is a shame that the risk:reward in Kaesora is so much better than Cita, and that any time a full group wants somewhere to exp, Cita is like sixth in line of places to go. I had a lot of fun in Cita and still could use a few of the nodrop boss loots but the only time I ever see people going is if a zone reset caused some good snipe targets to spawn. I never see Lieut or Phoenix Master loot on the market anymore and it's sad.

Nobody seems to be in bloodquarry either. Was BQ also nerfed?

afaik BQ wasn't changed or nerfed, it was always my favorite zone to XP in. This was maybe a year ago or a little over so if it was nerfed more recently than that then my mistake.

I outright refused to do Citadel. The mobs there gave XP about on par with a bloodfire or a BQ mob, but took 1.5x as long to kill and had to be pulled way more carefully. I never saw the pre-nerf Citadel, but I can tell you for 100% sure it's not worth doing if BQ / FR / Kaes is open and you're looking for mass xp.

pre nerf cit exp is like having a bucket full of fish to max capacity and shooting the fish with a shotgun.

it was amazing and people WANTED to go there. Now a days people are dragged there because someone wants to fill an aug.

Part of the reason it was so good too is that we had the old necro and ranger runics and things like that; I don't think a typical exp group would be able to clear as much of the zone per cycle these days unless you had a group full of SF people who don't even need exp or money in the first place.

I remember doing pre-nerf cita with neither a ranger or necro in the group, so that isn't really it. The nerfing of the xp/cash there, w/o a change in the mobs and fight mechanics (some of which are quite fun) just make the zone not worth it compared to other xp areas in ikisith (or elsewhere). Whether the zone needed a nerf (at all) in those areas could be debated for sure, but it undoubtedly did not that big a nerf.

The reward was good because of the mechanics of that zone imo. You have to pay attention and it is hard on boxing. Nerfing the reward while keeping the mobs hard doesn't make any sense, so I agree.

It really isn't the end of the world to have zones that have both good money and good xp drops, the amount of money and xp that characters need is insane.

The cita nerf is just a microcosm of the really off putting unspoken mantra around these parts which seems to be "if it is fun or people like it then nerf bat, otherwise ignore it". The eventual release of 2.5 is a big project that takes many many man hours, but how many threads in this subforum (from just the last 6 months even) are asking for really minor QoL changes yet go completely ignored? People get frustrated or annoyed and disappear from the server. If staff could just make it a goal to address one of these requests a month, even really minor stuff like "please make buffs stop greying out cast bars for no reason" or "increase the zone bonus in cita", it would show people (especially people new or checking out the server) that player feedback matters and the staff wants to make the game enjoyable for everyone.

I just wanted to comment on this part of your post: I am sure the staff want to make this game enjoyable for everyone otherwise, they wouldn't continue to do things for the server like the things mentioned in this thread here:

I am posting to say thank you for some awesome additions to the game:

Raid mob xp: the first kill XP thing is great. A nice bonus for clearing new content.

Mana free buffs during raids: Very good downtime saver, I was unaware of this until yesterday(!)

Improved newbie quests and newbie xpable gear: sweet perk while I was leveling up.

Fast camp in cities: I was incredulous about whether this was a real improvement but it has sped up the buffbot thing quite a bit.

Probably you guys did some other good stuff but for now thanks for this stuff which is making quality of life in SoD play better for everybody.

Other things like the monk combo system or the new monk replacement for the combo system. Augurs. The staff does listen to player feedback.

I am not saying the rest of your post is invalid or w/e but I felt that portion needed a response. <3

some of my favorite memories in this game are of exping in citadel. it provided a group the opportunity to increase their reward through smart, skilled play. we would measure our exp per hour, challenge ourselves to clear X placeholders per hour, etc. it was unique to other exp zones in that regard: it was the only exp zone that essentially tailored itself to the abilities of the group, with rewards reflecting that. it's a shame that newer players don't get to "experience" (lollll) the beauty and vision of the zone.

cita is dumpster xp nowadays. vendor prices are garbage and tome drop rates are asinine. can go to first ruins and mass pull bloodfires and sivakians all day and make way more plats and exp (unless baxters is in your cita group in which case you'll have at least 15 tome 2s. would really like to see this zone get boosted in xp and vendor prices on boe loot cause as is, i hate going to this zone because of the lack of rewards.

i dont understand why power creep is something so shamed on this server.... its like characters arent suppose to get stronger.... as you get stronger xp and money rates should also come increase... thats how games like this work... but for some reason a lot of changes are trying to knock us back to where farming rust and elds is the same amount of exp as doing a zone intended for t9 plus groups... prob is we get some heavy handed nerfs with no follow up balance... and its spun the server into a tail spin noise dive.

If you guys are so dis-satisfied become a Dev, see the world, and change it! (there's your new Dev recruitment slogan!)

Didn't say you could just walk in. I said become. That means, LEARN, work, and eventually, you will. I just simplified it by about 100 steps.

being a dev is about as useful as being a player with ideas in most cases, there is alot of red tape so to say and ideas that dont fit into the overall "vision of the game"...
