Trying to pick a race for SK.

I'm leaning towards a Dark Elf Shadowknight, but I'm pretty sure that's just because I think they look cool lol. I think Iksar are technically the best right? Would a Dark Elf SK still be a threat and would they still make a good tank in a group?

And if I did make a Dark Elf SK, what would be the most effective way of distributing points during character creation? I'm guessing things like strength and stamina? What about Dex and Agility? Charisma?

Thanks for any guidance. :)

For race, just pick whatever you think looks cool. To be honest it doesn't really make much of a difference.

For stats, probably stamina and agility is your best bet. Translates to HP and AC. Charisma nice for some spells (level 30 AE spells comes to mind) but not necessary as all your aggro spells are unresistable. Once you get to 65 I think the stats you spend at the beginning are a bit trivial anyway. The gear you get will be far more important.

The problem with dark elf, is that while they look cool, they have lackluster melee stats. I played one on live, and most of the time wished I'd make an iksar for the ac bonus, or an ogre for the no stun bonus (and best mellee stats). (Here its a stun duration reduction.. but still pretty nice.) Iksar have the xp/ skill learn penalty, also. The dark elf mez/charm resist is nice, but not enough of an offset imo.

This. Unless your super serious about min maxing, if your serious about that then you want to go with iksar or erudite, possibly gnome. The racial stat differences really mean little in the long run but the racial bonuses make a difference. Iksars get ac , erudites get a bonus to specializations and gnomes get some boosts to focii/haste iirc. Human/troll/ogre/darkelf/whatever all make basically no difference in what you do. Don't be fooled by the regeneration bonus either its garbage and amounts to nothing.

Stats: If you intend to raid and go for the high end drop it into agility or charisma. Stamina is the first one your going to max with gear. The other two aren't so abundant. Dexterity is mostly a joke your melee dps sucks and your paid to be a tank. Intelligence is well, lol and youll max it whenever you have the spare aas.

If you don't want to be king badass raidsworth the 6th drop it into stamina and forget about it.

If you want to look cool as a darkelf be a darkelf, the best shadowknight ingame is a godamned gnome. Its not going to really hurt your ability to do anything.

bear in mind, if you want to min/max but look like a specific race. you can always get an illusion, whether sb or clicky.

SahdowKnight Starting Statistics
Dark Elf - 562 - 314
Erudite - 560 - 337
Gnome - 555 - 318
Human - 555 - 330
Iksar - 555 - 300
Ogre - 586 - 379
Troll - 557 - 339

First column is race
Second column it total starting points
Third column is total of stats that matter STR, STA, INT, CHA.

But it all really doesn't matter in the end.

Half those stats don't matter at all and are a terrible way to gauge a race =(

Alrighty, I appreciate all of the input. :) I decided to go Dark Elf and I guess we'll see how it turns out.

My question now is, what kind of weapon should I try and specialize in. I'm weary to spend a lot of time with my starter sword because I think two handed swords are the way to go and would rather spend my early levels building up skills I plan on using the rest of my time on the character. Are two handed swords the best for a shadowknight who hopes to tank in groups and/or effectively solo from time to time? If not, what would be a better direction to go?

Thanks guys! :p

Unless yo'ure in raid gear you're pretty much going to always be tanking in groups with a shield on. SK's get some pretty decent 1hand items, i'd recomend working on 1hb/1hs first, and pericing after that. Keeping your 2 handede abilities up for if you get a chance to dps (lawl) is always nice though.

Some advice: use the SoD wiki and look up Adepts. They drop some insanely good gear for tanks, and a lot of people enjoy killing them.

Here is what I found.. unless they changed it recently SoD does not make damage caps on two handers for being low level.. So your best bet is to get yourself a Mithril 2hs. At level 1 to 10 you'll be one/two shotting mobs at over 70 points a hit.. You'll be a dps machine until you hit level 20s... after that go 1 hander/shield. Skillups will come quick.
