Trivial Loot Code for Hill Giants

I suggest implimenting the TLC (or something similar) for hill giants and other cash mobs. The whole idea behind them is that they are slow to kill, give lousy exp, but the trade-off is that you can get some hefty loot from them for the level required to kill them.

Is it right that one level 65 can practically insta-clear their entire spawn cycle, including the named, effortlessly gaining thousands of pp per hour without any real trade off? Its worse here than on live servers, at least when I was playing. I have fond memories of HG groups when I was little. Now its monopolized by high levels, who pass off the camp endlessly to their guildies when they have to log after a 6 hour cash-grab orgy...

At minimum, HGs should have a decreased chance of dropping loot if they are green, the named should be pure TLC (dropping nothing if green), and an appropriate substitute should be given so that high levels & soloers can grab some RvR cash without resorting to item farming.

*braces for rotten tomatoes*

There is no good reason for a level 65 to camp hill giants considering better locations are available.

There's no better place for solo instant cash. Farming for loot is better cash but then you have to have a market.

Shoot... I know if I was 65 I'd be chasing HGs around for some cash down in Rathe Mtns. Big giant cash cows. The convenience and availability of good gear on PC vendors has made platinum more desirable to have in my point of view. More so than live... IMO

EDIT:

Ehhh. I guess there was the Bazaar. So that weakens my point

Well the GMs could decrease the loot drop on the HGs or just increase the loot drops on other mobs in the game to balance things out.

I know it would be hard for me to resist the easy money at that level if I needed upgrades. Who wants to farm loot and auction it for hours to poor people? Even at the slooooow pace I kill HGs, when I get the chance, its absolutely the best way for me to graduate out of the 20s quest armor and into Wyrmhide.

HGs are a good source of revenue, just too good when you can solo kill them at faster-than-light velocities. They are not RvR balanced for high levels, IMO.

With the spawn times, there is no way they are making "thoudands of platinum" an hour. I was able to make roughly 250pp an hour duoing at lvl 50. I haven't gone back there since then though.

500pp per hour at that level, in pure cash, is about right. The gems and clubs at least double that. Add in the occasional named (ruby crowns, fire opals, etc.)... then magnify that by a level 65s killing pace. It does add up to quite a bit.

Thousands isn't a gross exaggeration by any means.

trivial loot code is a bit lame, but some special code to spawn a level 58 'an enraged hillgiant' with large agro for high levels and a few min despawn on the event of the zone being cleared of them would cut down on mass farming :D

That is just vicious! i like it. But in all fairness, there should be better places for high levels to get cash drops. If gear does not sell well, then maybe they could crank up the vendor prices on loot. That would allow gear to be sold to merchants and thus give a medium for cash flow for high levels and keep the giants open for the intended level range.

funny, i've camped hill giants occasionally, its pretty boring, and yes, they do drop GEMS every once and a while. Giants are on a 30minute respawn timer and there's what? 5-6 that spawn? about the most they can drop is 20p except for the rich named who can drop around 80p + rare gem most of the time, but he's a very rare spawn. now, lets see, on a good good godly hour, 5x20 = 100 + 5x20 = 200p in just stright cash per hour, thats if they ALL have max cash on them. now, as for the gems, yes sometimes they drop rare gems or ruby crown, but hell, its just so damn random. you could kill 3 sets of giants and not get one gem, then get two gems next set.

since i dont have track, i'd rather hit up the ice giants since they are much easier to camp and kill since they all spawn in about the same place and don't roam (cept for the one at the gate but he just walks back to everchill and back)

quit whining that you cant camp them and go find something else to do.

 kay if you say so. I guess I'm missing the other zone with greenies that drops hundreds of plat an hour.

That's what I'm saying. Decrease the HG loot drop or increase other mobs.

Or decrease the loot dropped by *extremely* trivial mobs in order to herd high levels into the zone(s) Melwin is eluding to. I don't know what the alternatives are myself, being only 43, so I can't say they don't exist.

As a rule, though, people do what works for them. If farming HGs wasn't profitable on a level 65 scale, it wouldn't be done.

Simple as that.

Well, simple. Get mobs more there level that drop MORE loot than the HG's do. Then the higher level people are happy as well as the people that are able to kill HGs.

Why kill greenies if you end up with both exp and far more money in other places? :?
