Trio Ideas.

Alright, so i'm going to be restarting shards with a friend. I can 2 box, but my friend won't be able to. So i'm looking for ideas on a good 3 class combo for when we can't find groups. I was thinking pally/cleric/mag? sk/druid/bl? Any imput would be appricated, thanks!

Any combination of Tank/Healer/DPS will get you thru a ton of situations. I would say pick what you all think are fun to play, seeing as your already half of a group you can easily fill in with other utility later.

Pally/Cleric/Bard might be interesting to try hehe. But anything should work just fine.

Paladin + cleric + rogue = superior. Rogues have no downtime and the paladin enables them to crit undead mobs.

Edit: Warrior + monk + shaman would be my next choice followed by SK + wizard + druid.

When I box my dru/bst and group with Gankuag (SK) it makes a fairly effective group. I am sure there are other combos, but that is a pretty good one.

I would think you want heals, slow and DS in addition to a tank and dps.

You could also use a monk instead of a real tank. They tank well enough and their uber pulling will open up some zones for you.

I'm thinking Druid/Enchanter/Mage would be a good trio. You have some amazing mana regen so you can constantly kill. The mage pet makes a pretty good tank and with snare and all the druid dots you could kite like crazy. Latter on, the mage can summon peridots which will help with the Rune spells. You should be able to level like crazy with this group and have a lot of fun in the process. You can rez, track, slow, port, charm, mez, summon great items, blast, dot, haste, heal,DS, and all the other stuff I mentioned earlier. A very solo trio.

I don't know that the pet tanking will be good enough for many zones. Seems like you would be really limiting the content that you can effectively handle.

Depends where you fight, and which pet you use. I've seen the Relic mage pet tank the DN dragons effectively with monster summons as aux or ramp tanks. And I know Odyn used to clear most of an occupied warzone with just his magician and a druid box.

That being said all those would have been done easier and with worse gear, with a real tank.

Mage+cleric is far better than mage + druid.

Agree with this.

Also for the comment above about the relic mage pet tanking dragons...yeah...well...it's a relic. It's not exactly a spell that will be easy to get for him. :)

Mage pet is a pretty good tank in most exp places especially the air pet. Mage+cleric is pretty good. Mage/Pally/Cleric pretty much unkillable imo. Granted the pally has quite a bit of overlap with the cleric as far as buffs go, but the healing + self-healing in that duo is amazing. Mage can summon dots and searfires for them as well. Good times. As often as the summoned cleric hammer procs I found searfire to be pretty sweet with that. :)

They lack crowd control...but with a tank and pet it's not gonna be needed often. and when it is later on...the pally has AOE aggro spells/stance to just eat up mob aggro.

Tbh yes it can tank dragons, not really well without a substantial amount of buffs though. Ramp and aux tanking basically killed a substantial portion of mage soloing ability (more than most of the other nerfs we've been handed).. Pally mage cleric is a decent trio, though it depends. Honestly I'd be suggesting pally necro cleric, pally wiz cleric, or sk instead of pally's in either of those as a better choice. Better burst. Mage only really becomes close to decent when you have multiple mobs in camp. Necros possess far far greater utility and mana regen, and wizards also have superior utility and better dps.

Just keep in mind that this will be 2 people playing 3 toons and a major aspect your overlooking is the fact that SoD and its exp zones are sometimes far apart. I would highly suggest that 1 of the 3 toons be able to port hence:
Cleric SK Wiz
or
Dru Pal DPS (Rog, Mag, Necro or w/e)

My brother and I did a good bit when we were leveling up and fairly easy.
I play Mnk/Dru and he played a ranger and tbh we kicked ass and still do!

I'm a druid and I played with a Cleric/SK box for a long time and we did really well. SK had decent DPS (especially with druid DS), the druid can do everything from CC, heal, DPS, port, etc. and the cleric obviously heals and buffs. It's a well rounded threesome for sure.

Overall, like any character suggestion thread though I would say this: Play what the 2 of you think would be fun to play. With 3 toons, you'll never have a problem finding something you can handle for good xp and you'll always be able to add others to the mix as well. Do what you think will be fun and worry about efficiency later. You'll be fine with 3 toons no matter what.

Well some of the better duo's are shm/mnk, pal/dru, nec/dru, mag/clr. So trios like:

mnk/shm/rog (both melees benefit greatly from haste)
dru/pal/mnk (ports, splitting, tanking, and DS)
nec/dru/pal (combines two top duos, same pros as above and you get mez as well)
mag/clr/wiz
etc...

mag/clr/wiz

no no no no no oh god no. That right there is a terrible combination. Why? Who is there to hold aggro? The wizard? The pet will barely hold out (especially at lower levels) to one rain chained. It certainly is going to come off from the wizard nuking. Most melee classes would be better to add in there. Best would probably be monk.
