Treasure maps - A few questions.

Hello all,

I had a talk with a few friends and ended up having a bit of questions about Treasure Maps.
When you catch and use them it tells you what zone its in. Is that proportionate to the difficulty of the map, and in turn to the treasure you get from it?
Should you identify the map after you caught it?
How much do they usually sell for? Does that depend on the difficulty or the area the treasure is located in?

Thanks a ton for the info!

Since a lot of people seem to be interested in this, I will make a little FAQ using the info that I gathered through here and in game. All of this info has been confirmed by asking other experienced players on the server.

--FAQ--
Q: How does one get a treasure map?
A: You can either fish for it after you have reached a fishing skill of 200 or kill lvl 50 + mobs.

Q: Where can I fish for these maps?
A: Sea of Swords and Storm Sea - Anywhere on those maps.

Q: Does it matter what lvl I am?
A: No, as long as you have 200 fishing. Nothing else matters.

Q: Is there any difference between map types?
A: Yes, they come in various difficulty levels. Only the Very Easy ones can be obtained by fishing.

Q: What do they do?
A: You click on the map to see where its treasure is buried, then use a shovel to find and dig it up. You then fight off waves of monsters to get at the prize. The rewards are usually extremely nice drops (good enough for lvl 60 + chars to use).

Q: How long does it take to get one through fishing?
A: Most people say anywhere from 4 to 10 hours. From personal experience I would say about 6-7 hours to fish up a map, however the conclusion seems to be that it’s completely random.

Q: How much do they sell for?
A: The ones you get from fishing sell for about 500 plat, the higher ones from monsters sell for a lot more. I have been told higher level maps go for a ton of money to guilds.

You need a caster to cast identify on you while you are holding the map on your mouse cursor. This will let you know the difficulty of the map.

I'd say they sell according to difficulty, but never really bought any (and I dont' think you can identify them while on the vendor...).

That post doesn't make sense. I've never bought/sold a treasure map, so someone else will have to answer your question.

So far all treasure maps I've caught were very easy (but they still varied in difficulty when we did them).

General rule of thumb...the more torn up it looks on the icon, the harder it is.

Goes something like Very Easy, Easy, Medium, Hard, Very Hard.

You can only catch very easy maps from the two ocean zones in the game (Sea of Swords and Storm Sea). Higher difficult maps are aquired from defeating mobs in high level dungeons.

very easy maps sell for 500-750pp Easy would be around 1k and moderate about 1.2kish, I don't see many maps for sale usually.

Scrolls with brown sticks are very easy, faded are easy, torn top are moderate, white sticks are difficult, side torn are very hard/ raid. Each Treasure Hunt is unique. VE may range from 3 to 9 waves of mobs. I solo'd a 9 wave VE while Volkov waited to bash the chest for me. :p

How common are they?

Thanks for the response guys. One last question: How common are they? I spent about 6 hours fishing and only caught one.
Spoke to a few friends, some say its a 3-4 hour deal/map, some say they fished for more then 8 and never caught it, some say they fished for 30 min and caught one.
Just want to know if its completely random or what? Or does it depend on your fishing skill?
Finally, what items raise your fishing skill? I have heard that there is a fishing pole that spawns in Everfrost. Anyone know anything about that?

Thanks again.

I've spent around 8 hours fishing after I maxed my skill and caught 3 tmaps alltogether. I got 2 of them just as I started fishing, then nothing for 2 hours and then I logged. Now I fish every now and then. So I guess they're random.

Its completley random. I would spend hours fishing and not get anything, only to get 2 within an hour of fishing later. So if I had to give yu a range I would say anywhere from 1 to 12 hours you should catch a map, lol hope that helps.
Prices are loose. I have seen them sell for anywhere from 300, all the way to 800. So find a middle ground and sell them at that sweet spot. Obviously the cheaper you price is the more buyers you would have. Around 500 should be fair. Much more for higher difficulty maps. But why would you sell them? Keep them untill higher levels. Eventually you will get a group and head out to a treasure hunt. The items you get from these things are great and rightly so, because so are the waves of the beasties coming at you.

As far as i know the speed between the digs determin the amount of waves you gat the faster you are in killing and digging again the lesser waves youl get.

Now I understand that as long as your fishing skill is at 200 you can get a map, but what level do you have to be to get the treasure? Could say, a level 25 melee class solo the mobs and then get the treasure? Or is this the kind of thing where you need to be 60+ and have a group?

And how do you open the chest after? Do you just target it and hit bash or something? And could someone come along and ninja it while you're fighting the mobs?

The maps are for 60+.
We've done them around 50 but had a whole raid for them - the mobs are around lvl 50.
You just attack the chest at the end.
I get really nice xp from tmaps (1 group).

Map reward is required lvl 50 (as far as I've seen). Would you bring a raid to make them or just a group depends on your lvl / your choice.
