track the prey!

Hey, just joined your world of SoD a few days ago as a friend recommended me to you guys =)

Anyways I played a rogue on Live for a couple of years and just wanted to run a though past you guys.

Slowly moving through the shadows following the tracks of the unsuspecting victim the assasin waits for the perfect moment.
Every movement perfectly coordinated as to not give away his position but yet move every closer to what soon will be a rotting corpse of flesh.
He has followed the mark for days through desserts, forrests, swampts, awaiting for the perfect moment to strike, that perfect moment is now,it is night there is a heavy fog blocking out most light, no other creatures are in the vicinity....
...Then he wakes up, sits up in his bed.. FAWK im a rogue and can't track!..

Really would it not be logical for a rogue to be able to track his prey?

Are you asking for rogues to get tracking?

This requires modifying the game client, which is not possible.

Also, from a flavor point of view, and rogue who spends time looking at the ground is a rogue waiting to die. Rogues track what they can see, and they are pretty good at it with sneak and hide.

yes

really, that sucks =/

is that why rangers die so much

from a flavor point of view
well you dont run with your face pointing at the ground constantly, look down every now and then to get the heading.. see an old campfire, droppings (eww), broken twigs.. things that would give an idea of what passed by, were something went.
to me that would fit a rogues 'flavour'

There is a marked difference between "This should be changed because I want it" and "This should be changed because its broken/unbalancing".

Guess which one this falls under.

Rangers track things down through the wilderness... assassins are told where to find someone then wait for them and do the job without being noticed.

Notice: Assassin is spelled with four s's

thanks =) always misspell things..

whatever i say it can always fall under '"This should be changed because I want it''' because no matter what i say im going to want it changed for some reason otherwise i would not have said it..

I can agree to you in part here, rangers should be way better trackers than assassins, its their thing, but i would then see rogues as maybe having the same skills as bards do with tracking. an assassin should by trade be able to do some minor tracking, he cant always have a perfectly clear view of his target. and im sure not every mark is, go here the guy will sit with his back to you at exactly 12.oo then 12.o3 if you should fail to kill him before then he will walk out the 3rd door and continue down to...

It just seems right in my head. ;)

EDIT:

Are you sure that its no possible?
I mean would it not be the same as adding or removing spells.
Seems they have changed so much, shouldent this be changable aswell?
But what do i know i havent toyed around with it, maybe one of the devs could shed some light?

How does this account for class balance at all?

Well im not arguing at it from a class balance point of view i guess...

but as i see it tracking wouldent really give them much of a upper hand, i mean they still need a group to kill things, it does not increase their dps, most people know were most things they want to kill are..
The only time it would really come in handy would be finding the odd npc you need for a quest or something, or maybe a roaming spawn(which would play in to the stalking part i was talking about earlier)

did that answer it?

threads that are basically "give me this class this because i think it would be cool" with no other reason usually don't do too well here.

Bards are a mix of many classes... arguing that rogues should be able to do it because bards can is just :psyduck:. Should they be able to sing too?

No, it's completely different. It's more like AAs... The number, reuse and type of AA for each class, and how they're shared among classes cannot be changed in the client. The effects of those AAs (like spells) can.

(Unless this thread was moved) This is the Classes and Gear discussion forum. I could see this being the case if it was posted in Suggestions and Requests, but I don't see a huge issue with discussing it here, to get feedback etc, before posting it in a more serious discussion forum. Just my 2cp!

that's a pretty good point jayelle, i never even think about the difference between the two when i'm switching back and forth between them, sorry for the kinda snarky response to the OP
