This makes no sense

Okay, I've been having MAJOR problems trying to connect, I either get a 1001 error (which looks to me like it's from me timing out) or once I'm about to get to the server load page (with the music) my screen flashes and EQ starts over again. However here's the kicker... I installed it on my little brothers laptop which is the exact same as mine, bought in the same store same day same time, patched him to live, put the hotfix in the EQ folder, patched to WR (had the same problem with thegrey) and hit run. HE had no problem signing in and when I finally managed to get him off so that I could see if my account could still sign in I had no problem logging in either... I thought it might have been caused by the fact that he has about 50 gig of space on his system so I went through and deleted all the anime I have on my system bringing it up to 50.1 gig from about... 15 gig and tried to connect, still no luck I'm still timing out. I reinstalled EQ for the fifth time last night before doing the exact same thing that we did on my brothers laptop to make it work and yet mine is still borked....

What's strange is the exact same thing happened to me, my little brother has had no problems and I have encountered every bug in the game. I even installed it on his computer for him and using the same lan.

I'm in now however,

Did you ever acidently start up EQ after the initial patch using the oficial .exe I think it has something to do with that, and the secondary patch they give you when you connect to the station server beyond the initial patch server.

cause that's the only thing we have done differently.

Perhaps it is a factor outside the Hardware and EQ that is causing the issue. Though I would still possibly look at running some diags on your HW - namely memory, CPU.

Run any spyware and virus scans recently - it seems unlikely to cause these issues - but at this point it is the route I would go.

Hmmm? No... I ran the patcher once(with optional zones and LDoN clicked), deleted any shortcuts to EQlive, ran the hotfix, then patched to WR.

Do you mean that I -should- run some or are you asking if I have run any recently?

Either or - im just adding these to rule out further possiblities since it seems you have been through the reinstalling of EQ/WR multiple times with no resolve.

One thing I left out also is any firewall you are running be it software or hardware (via router).

I had turned off my firewall last night when I was trying to connect but when he was able to his was on. I ran Norton to check for viruses yesterday and I ran adaware a day or two ago. I don't know if this is helpful at all but when I hit enter after putting in my password everything slows WAY down, I can't move my mouse, the little red status notes come up slowly and change slowly, then if I make it to the server list it starts out as the normal EQ one before slowly changing to the WR one (my mouse is still being retarded) the little blue Welcome thing up at the top moves extremely slowly and then when I hit enter the scanning world servers and submitting player stuff goes really slowly.

None of that happens trying to run it on the other laptop.

Well, I know mine runs slow after submitting my password - takes longer than I think it should to load up - but it eventually loads.

Since you are running on a portable - I would also make sure that the Hardware Profile or Settings you are using isn't scaling down your CPU (such as Smart Step, etc that reduces CPU speeds to reduce power consumption.

Alright... I'm going to try defragging my system to see if that helps speed things up. Then if it still doesn't work I'll poke into the hardware settings.
