The Ytraz quest and quests in general.

I suppose this is more of a rant, than it is anything else. I wasn't sure where to put it, so it landed here.

Anyway, to begin off, I hate quests. Why do I hate quests, you ask? Well, they seem to always have you killing pointless things that are very below your level. For the Ytraz, I've been camping the miners in Thurgadin for Mithril Ore for the past weeks and have killed at least 20 spawns or more. That's about 200 dwarves and no Mithril Ore. I have about 50 stacks of regular ore, oh boy. I'm at the point where I actually believe that it doesn't drop anymore.

Another point for the Ytraz, the piece in Shrouded Isle on the one week spawn. Yeah, thanks.

Why do so many quests involve tedious camps that are pointless? If I was supposed to do the dwarves back when they gave experience, then so be it, but I'm fairly certain I'd be far out of the level range by the time I actually got the mithril ore. The camps were the sole reason I never did any quests on live, either. I want to see progression when I'm online, I don't want to sit on my ass for hours hitting "/cast 5" (Flamestrike) on my Druid wasting green mobs so I can finally get a weapon. I would much rather either a) buy said weapon or b) kill raids mobs for it. Ahh, but herein lies the problem. Ytraz is the best warrior weapon available, by far. It doesn't compare to any of the dropped weapons I've seen and as such, is almost necessary to complete. The best weapon (mainhandable) I've seen lately is the Magebane, at 12/17 with a 150 DD/mana sieve proc.

The Ruby Hilted Longsword. My brother (Ramblo) and I started camping it one day because the quest is short, right? Well, we gave up after an hour and bought the damn thing. I'd much rather spend my money on something than to camp green spawns endlessly. If I could pay 20k...30k even, for the Ytraz, I would do it. No questions asked.

As for my original post. Is the Mithril Ore actually dropping? I've talked to other Warriors and they said it wasn't a bottleneck and haven't had any problems with it. Actually, to be honest, I've only talked to Linken, who got it on the second miner and he said that he hasn't heard it to be a problem.

All right, I'm done, and I still hate quests.

The Ytraz is so good because the quest is so long and full of bottlenecks. If we were to balance it according to ONLY its difficulty, it would be significantly weaker.

In short, if you don't want the weapon, don't do the quest. Bottlenecks are a necessary evil.

I know, but it's necessary to get the thing (pretty well). Like I said, nothing compares to it.

I wouldn't mind actually getting experience or something while camping it. I don't know. So the mithril ore is actually still dropping? From the rogue dwarf miners?

Um, the Ruby Hilted Longsword is great for its difficulcy BECAUSE it involves some terrible camps.

Mithril Ore still drops, yes.

That's what I figured. I just hate quests. Why aren't there more comparable weapons to the Ytraz that drop?

Oh, and thanks Melwin.

The ytraz quest is a bitch because it is an unreplaceable weapon even at 65 with max aa's and access to every raid zone. After using it so long I personally wish it was harder to get, it feels like the warrior wpic on wr.

I know it will never be replaced. That's why it sucks...you literally have to camp it. I want a comparable (or somewhat lesser) weapon that drops off a raid mob. There's just nothing out there that comes close, which leaves me camping retarded green crap for hours on end.

I love the Ruby Hilted Longsword quest because it allows a group of dedicated mid-level players to complete a quest to receive a piece of gear way beyond their level. Although, no one does this. Also, 1 hour is a pretty good show of impatience. That's exactly the amount of time it takes for two spawns of najads (if they're up to begin with), and the ancient leaf and royal jelly are supposed to take numerous hours to obtain. That's why the sword is an amazing droppable weapon and sells for 2-3k pp. It's the only mid-range obtainable weapon that does so.

And as stated before, the Ytrazliarch is an amazing and almost required Warrior weapon, of course it's going to be difficult and full of timesinks. That's how EverQuest works, you put in time and you get good stuff. Whoever puts in the most time has the most stuff.

It took me a few hours of killing miners for Mithril Ore, but I just stuck it out and did it in one sitting, its just your luck but sooner or later it WILL drop. Just be glad that they have a relatively short respawn time, are easy to get to and even easier to kill.

If you hate this quest now, prepare yourself for MUCH MUCH worse:
Mermaid Shell off of Gloom Guards? Same as the Mithril Ore, except you have to kill dark blue mobs, which summon and double (each hit can be up to 250ish), and about 4 are easily accessible without lots of adds. Oh yeah, and an 8 hour respawn.

Personally I dont think the quest is *that* insane for yeilding the 'best' weapon in game for Warriors/Rangers, one week spawns are part of numerous items in the quest.

I have a ton of mystery loot no drop items in the bank like that ore. If I had a clue what they are for, I bet I could delete the majority of them!

Sorry I couldn't help, Garison.
